Mark,
My grandfather, Oscar Joseph Mion, owned the Home Dairy Cafe, with his wife, Angie (Sagrillo) Mion. He operated it in Telluride before 1925 and after that, until 1949, in Gunnison, Colorado. I have a few stories I can share with you. I had no idea it was a chain of businesses. I always wondered where the name came from. Why are you so interested in your research?
How interesting!
Thanks,
mionlongsdorf@comcast.net

I found a saddle made by Rufus Sarson of Gunnison, the harness maker not the saddle maker. Very well made. I have spoken with a couple of old timers that knew Rufus and "Mrs. Sarson" as she was called. Rufus always wore white cuffs even with a short sleeved shirt, and Minnie was thought of as very strict by the then young boys that I spoke with. Rufus was well known and liked by the local ranchers because he was the first and only guy in Gunnison to have a harness dipping tank, which saved hours and hours of unlacing and relacing harnesses. There is now a steak restaurant where his store used to be on the 100 block of N Main St.

Hi again, I see Gunnison is not far from Nontrose County, Milford had a cousin, Raymond Davis, who died there, 5 Jan 1989, perhaps you might find something on Raymond, or his wife, her name appears to be Melida in the 1930 censuses. Again, thanks for any help, Richard

I am fairly confident I can trace this Davis line back to the 1700s NY, any further help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Richard
Home Dairy Cafe

Interested in ANY information/photos of the "Home Dairy Cafe" operated by Oscar J. Mion at Gunnison, Colorado. No dates, but after 1911 and before his death in 1949. He is buried at the Gunnison Cemetery: d. 12-20-1949, B70, L25, P02 and a family relative, may have been his widow: Angelina E. Mion, d. 09-04-1985 (ashes), B70, L25, P01. I am researching the history of the Home Dairy Company. This company comprised of several cafeteria's, delicatessen's, bakeries, and also in Michigan they had "Stop and Shop Super Markets" and owned the label "Homade" for their food items. At one point there were over 70 locations in NY, PA, MI, FL and Canada. Recently I have located two "Home Dairy" operations in Colorado, one in Gunnison, which used a similar "slogan" as several of the NY, PA, Canadian and FL locations - "Two Places To Eat, Here and Home" (Gunnison Home Dairy Cafe) and "Two Good Places To Eat, Here and at Home" (NY, PA, FL, and Canada locations). I have been researching this business for 33 years and no one knew of a Colorado connection - but it is possible. Any information on this family operated business in Gunnison would be appreciated. the "Home Dairy Co." operated under the names "Home Dairy Cafeteria" "Home Food Company" "Home Dairy Co." and in Michigan "Home Food" "Stop and Shop Super Markets" and "Home Dairy Co. Cafeteria." Please contact me at: MarkEAllen63@yahoo.com. Thank you.

Thank you for the information. I did see the marriage information but in Albert Hildebrand's will he nameed his wife Hilda as the executrix. He was single in the 1920s and 1930s census for Gunnison. She is reportedly to have sold their ranch on Ohio Creek and moved to Canon City. Searches of cemeteries for Canon City have revealed no Hilda Hildebrand. She bequeathed a large sum of money to the Rebekah lodge on her death in 1965. The Hildebrand ranch on Ohio Creek was sold to a Gierhart family and later to Ochs. Any other information on Hilda's maiden name, previously married name would be greatly appreciated.

Im looking for any information for Hilda (possibly Bertha) Hildebrand:
Where/when born, maiden name. She married (date unknown)Albert Hildebrand who owned a ranch on Ohio Creek. She could have been a widow living on a neighboring ranch on Ohio Creek when they married. I've been unable to confirm this. He died 1965 in Delta and is buried in the Gunnison Cemetery. Following his death she sold the ranch and moved to Canon City where she died in 1971. I've been unable to locate her grave.
I am the granddaughter of the John Niccoli you mentioned. I don't have much information, but his wife is still doing well in Oregon and I could find out more info for you.

vancouvermom@comcast.net

Thanks
Nicala
