Anderson (Annas, Pearl, Leland)

Annas Lee Anderson(1901-1977)was my great uncle. In the 1930 census - Sherman Co. KS, he is married (2 yrs) to Pearl 28y, b.OK and has an adopted son, Leland 4yrs, b. KS.
He was an OTR truck driver in CO., and the family remembers more than one "wife" through the years, but are not sure if a legal marriage ever took place.
I have records of his living in Cotopaxi in 1940, Monte Vista in 1961, and his SSDI lists Numa, Punkin Center, and Ordway as residences.
In the early 1940s relatives remember him visiting KS relatives with a wife and younger son who would have been born in the mid-30's, not the Leland mentioned above.
I would appreciate anyone who has more information about Annas or his family to reply. I am hoping to identify Pearl and the boys.
Thank you so much.
I'm not sure that we are talking about the same photo. Mine shows an unnamed young man apparently with the initials L. E. R. It looks like he gave the photo to his friends Mr. and Mrs. Mathews in 1897. How does that connect with your ggrandmother? Judy

I bought a photo identified by the handwritten notation "To Mr & Mrs Mathews, My friends, Mch 7-97 L. E. R." The photo is of a man in his twenties or early thirties and was taken by Fricke & Co., Canon City, Colo. I bought the photo at an antique shop in Midway, KY. I would like to reunite it with one of L. E. R's descendants or one of the Mathews' descendants.

Thank you for your reply. I will see if I can locate Neville. I believe Garland C. Gaines is a child that shows up with a cousin of mine, listed as his grandson in 1920 and 1930. I have never been able to determine the names of Garland's parents. Every now and then I get fired up to figure it all out. You have given me something new to look for. Thanks for your help.

We do know that the , Gaines had one son named Neville, or Nevel, not sure of the spelling. My aunt and Leona were very good friends. We believe that Neville was the only child.

Am seeking information regarding an old trading post/settlement that was located in Fremont County, near the present day town of Florence.

From what I understand it was known as Fort Leduc - also by several other names: Fort Maurice Ledoux, Buzzard's Roost, Maurice's Fort and Crow's Nest.

I have read that it was in existance from about 1839 to about 1849.

Does anyone have further information they could share regarding Maurice. Any information would be of tremendous help. thank you.

Patricia Quinn Meigs

Canon City James Family - Looking for Obituaries and Offering Information

Hello everyone,

I am hoping to find some things on my family that lived in Canon City. I already have a lot of information and photos of these people that I would love to share with anyone researching these people, but I am hoping to find relatives that might still live in the Canon City area or find out if there are any sort of historical archives that might have something on my ancestors there/

My biggest goal at the moment is to find the following:

1.Obituary for William James. He was born 2 Sep 1845 in England, died 9 Jan 1924 in Canon City, Colorado, USA.02 1845

2.Obituary for Ellen Downs (Barrett) James. She was born 13 Apr 1851 in Pilaton, Cornwall, England, and died 6 Jul 1927 in Canon City Cornwall.

These two had the following children who lived in Canon City at one time, but I haven’t been able to track down any except for Arhtur Henry, my great great grandfather, and his brother Mark. Any further information on these people would be helpful.

Name born location

Bessie James	1877	Callington, Cornwall, Enlgand
Mark James	1878	Callington, Cornwall, England
Eli James	1880	Callington, Cornwall, England
Joseph James	1883	Nova Scotia, Canada
Eliza James	1887	Nova Scotia, Canada
Ada James	1889	Nova Scotia, Canada
Arthur Henry James 23 June 1890	Nova Scotia, Canada
Rose/a James	1894	Nova Scotia, Canada

Also, I have ties to the Demicell/Demicelli family in Canon City. There are many researchers of this large family and, if not to find more information or photos of this family, I would be more than happy to share the large amount of information that’s been shared with me and introduce anyone interested to other Demicell researchers.
Of course, anything on any of these people is welcome. I am open to questions and if you’d like, please check out my web site www.thebluebox.tribalpages.com for more names and dates.

Thanks in advance.

I did not get any hits from this posting but I was lucky to
make a contact thru a myfamily site for the snow family.
I now have made contact with Maxcy J. Watson Stiles. She is
93 years old and still lives in Canon City, CO. There are
other Watson descendants still living in Pueblo and the Denver area. Maxcy has a daughter, Margaret Storm, that also
lives in Canon City. What I have found over the years of
searching for descendants is that the connections get lost
over the younger generations and then when the young people
want to know more about their people, the old people are gone. We must write down what we know so that succeeding
generations will know their families past.

Weeks or Weekes- William and Mabel (or Maybelle) in Fremont Co from 1900 until 1950

Searching for any and all information on William and Mabel (or Maybelle) Weeks (also spelled Weekes) known to be in Fremont County, CO from 1900 until 1950. I can put them in both Florence and Penrose.

William was born in Wales and Mabel's maiden name was Johnston. I believe they had 2 children who were born in Illinois...but they also were in Fremont County. William would be my great Uncle...however, I never knew my grand-parents because of some family issues...and have no information about my family except what I have found through genealogy research.

I have found information about the burial location of William and Mabel from the Fremont county website..and the census information...but I would love to find any other historical information...or better yet, any living relatives. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much!!!

William A. Watson, Willis Watson families

I am researching these families since they link to my
greatgrandmother, Sarah (Sallie) Elizabeth Watson, who
married Hugh Hudson Melrose at Frazerville, Colorado, in 1866 and had perhaps 4 children. My grandfather, Joseph M
Melrose was born at Wetmore on April 11, 1874. Sarah divorce Hugh and married Hamilton R. Bowling in 1879 at Rosita. They moved on to Pagosa Springs, Colorado by 1882.
James and Joseph came later to live with them. Hugh died at Rosita in 1913 and is buried in the Rosita cemetery.
I have copies of a photo album that includes twin children, Leon and Lester Watson and several unnamed people that may be Watsons. William A. Watson and wife, Mary Crouch, lived in Rosita in 1880.
A son, Willis , lived in Canon City in 1920 & 1930. He was
in the tax accessors office. William appears to be a brother to Sarah. Thank you all for any answers to this puzzle.
Wendell H. Melrose

I am looking for information regarding Irvin Jeremiah Roberts who lived in the Fremont Canon City area. I am researching his WV relatives and looking for an Elizabeth Roberts who may be researching as well. Any census, birth, marriage, children's birth records...anything at all would be most helpful!!! thanks in advance. s roberts

Benjamin & Mary Price in Fremont Co. 1880

Ben & Mary were in Fremont in 1880. Both born in Ohio. They had a family Flora, John W. Mertie, Mary & Franklin. Probably others. Where are they in Fremont County, CO and where did they go? Did they leave by way of the grave or wagons? Anyone know anything about this family?
