Hryvko, Leischuck related to Lazorishak?

Elbert COunty 1920 census put's my father's cousins John and Frank Lazorishak in the Leischuck household in Elbert, CO. Their mother Julia Namisnyk Lazorishak (perhaps Lazarsczak--so many spellings!)is buried in Pueblo in 1917 and we believe their father Fyodor Lazorishak left them there while he worked in the factories in Pueblo. Soon after the census their father brought them to Sharon, PA to his brother's house (my grandparents Frank and Anna Lazorishak--both formerly of Canonsburg, PA)The boys Frank and John were raised by my grandparents after their father died. My Grandmother Anna Hryvko (named changed at some point to Rifgon) Lazorishak was born in Breslau PA, 1900 and must have moved to Canonsburg, PA at a young age. My Grandfather was from Maniow, Poland (at the time) but always refrred to his birthplace as Galicia, Ukraine and is where many of the Hryvkos and Lazorishaks immigrated from. Anna and Frank visited Ramah, CO in 1940 withtheir children Julie, Mary and Ted and Anna's mother Tillie. There are so many variations of Lazorishak I wonder if Leischuchk is the same family? And when did Hryvko become Rifgon in Canonsburg, PA? I'm wondering how to locate land grant info in Colorado? It musy have been the way for immigrants to go in the late 1800s? Thanks if you have any info/suggestions.Family ties to orthodox churches. KAH

I searched the Elbert County News, but I didn't find an obituary. Do you know if he lived in Elbert County or in El Paso County? The Elbert Post Office also delivers in northern El Paso County. I thought if he lived there, then there might be an obituary in the Colorado Springs newspaper, The Gazette. You can search the obituaries at http://www.gazette.com/ Under the calendar, there is a a link for "Search The Gazette's fee-based archive for obituaries back to April 1988." For some reason, this won't open for me today. But hopefully you will be able search it.
You might also check with the Ranchland News http://www.ranchland-news.com/

Gayle Gresham
Elbert Public Library
Elbert County Library District

I stumbled across your message somehow after spending the weekend "doing" Harpers and Logsdons. I am researching McSherrys. I wrote to Wilbur McSherry in Kosciusko, Indiana a couple of years back and he sent me copies of two letters written in the 1870's or so from two McSherry nieces somewhere in the midwest to their McSherry family in Indiana. At the time I was working on Pennsylvania and Ohio in the 1700's to 1800's and set the letters aside. I had no idea who these people were anyhow. Well, imagine my surprise in finding that these two girls Harriet McSherry Logsdon and Sarah Catherine McSherry Harper (aunt and niece but only a year apart in age) ended up marrying gentlemen from Kentucky and apparently kept in touch over the years because in the 1900 census there they are the widowed Harriet living with her son Andrew next to Sarah Catherine Harper and her husband A.J. I would be happy to share copies of my copies of the letters with anyone interested. Nancy Smith

Hi Nancy, I am a BELT descendant. Mariah was the sister to my ancestor Rev. Benedict Belt (both children of Aquila Belt and Mary Inscho)--and I do live about 1 1/2 hour south of Kosciusko County! I have visited once since we moved here. Anyway, I would very much be interested in the letters you mentioned. I found your website tonight also and compared it to what I have--we have much of the same information as much of it has come from Census research. I look forward to hearing from you.

He was listed as 58 in the Elbert County census, 9 in 1870 in Missouri; 19 in 1880 in Iowa, but not found in 1900 or 1910, though an old newspaper clipping shows he was in Polk County, Arkansas, in December 1910.

The 1920 census listed wife, Becca, 48; daughter Pearl M., 26; daughter Marie, 22; son Roy (or Ray) C., 17; and daughter Ruby F., 12. Latter two were born in Colorado (Pearl in Nebraska; Marie in Kansas).

In 1930 Elbert Census, in Matheson Precinct 6, Roy, 27, is head of household; with Rebecca A., 58, widow; and Pearl M., sister.

I am attempting to track all of my Callarman cousins. Orman Lincoln Dunn's father, Thomas Dunn, was a son of William and Barbara (Callarman) Dunn.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi Rich--

I'm pretty sure that my husband's ggm was Louise A Rinker, b at 1871 in Colorado to Fred and Louisa, m. 10/12/1887 in Douglas County to Jacob Mager.

Jake and Louise had a daughter, Ruth, (b 2/16/1895) who was my husband's gmo. She married Paul D Steele in 1915.

That's as far as I've gotten on this line, so I was delighted to see your info.

Thanks a lot.

Pat Steele

Well, Frederick and Louise were my ggf and ggm, he born 1844, Baden-Wuertemberg, Germany, not sure when he died, S born 1844, same place, d 5 Mar 1882, Franktown, Colorado. Interesting side note, he was a carpenter. He buit most of Franktown and Kiowa, and several of his buildings are still standing.

He had, among others, Louis Adolph Rinker, b possibly in either New York, or on the boat enrt, agian, not sure of teh date. Louis mar (April, 1913) Daisy L. Gair (the Gairs had the ranch across the road, on the other side of the hill from the Rinker place, outside Kiowa, Colorado). Daisy was b 11-11-1886, d 1954 in Kiowa.

Another of Fredrick's sons was Adolph Carl Rinker (my gf), b 21 June 1869, d 2 April 1943, m Anne Cameron Gair (still across the road) 1-1-1900. She was b July 30, 1882, d Oct 28, 1938 (Denver). Adolph's son, Hugh Lowe Rinker was my dad, b Dec 3, 1914, in Denver. Most of the above was taken either from the head stones, or from my dad, or other surces in the family.

I have a few pix if you're interested.

Might I ask your connection?

The story is that Frederick and Louise came over with a bornter of Frederick's. They stayed together as far as Chicago, where they split. Frederick went west to Kiowa and ended up with something like 16 sections of land. His brother stayed in Chicago, and was never heard from again. I know there are a LOT of Rinker's in the Chicago area.

Hope this helps. Who else were you looking for?
Rich Rinker

I am interested in a transcription of the cemetery. I am looking for Frederick and Louisa Rinker, parents of Adolph, Louise and several others born in Elbert CO around 1874.

Frank Elmer Peck and Emma Cora Peck

Frank and wife Emma moved from Nebraska to Elbert Co., Colorado sometime between 1920 and 1930. They are not buried in Nebraska as far as I can find, and there are only 2 Cemetery listings for Elbert Co., Colorado as of this time. Is there anyone that could look up and see when they died and where they are buried? I would greatly appericate any help. Thank you!
