Paula,

Welcome to Colorado research, and Boulder County research as well! If you are interested in finding Lenna / Linna's maiden name, and the marriage data for Albert and Lenna, you may be able to find it in the following book: Boulder County, Colorado marriage records, 1860-1900, which was compiled by Wanda (Burch) Armstead and Rose (Rugg) Northrop for the Boulder Genealogical Society. I know that the Boulder Carnegie Branch Library has a copy of the book. There is also a copy of the book at the Main LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Unfortunately the book is not available on microfilm through the LDS library system. Perhaps you could request a look-up from the book from someone who lives in the Boulder County area. (I'd help you with a look-up in the book myself, but I live in Arizona.) The book is well indexed, and if your ancestor's names appear in the book, they should be easy to find.

I am trying to find information on a Benson family living a few years in Longmont, Boulder Co. CO. Albert Benson moved from IL to Longmont abt. 1870-1877. He married a local girl he calls Lenna abt 1870-1875 who signs her letter Linna (Maybe Melinda?) Her parents had a ranch about 5 miles out of town at that time, and she had several sisters and one younger brother. Albert and Lenna had a daughter, Grace b: bef Jan. 1875.

Albert Benson is an uncle by a former marriage, I have quite a few letters written by him to his father in Petaluma, CA. I would love to share them with his family, if I could find them. I would like to find out who Lenna was and find out more about Grace. I am new to research in Colorado; all help and suggestions will be welcomed.

I'll be happy to share what little I have.

Thank you,
Paula

Here's the marriage lookup

At the Longmont library I found this entry in the marriage record book:

Albert W. Benson married Helen Ackerman Dec 1, 1872
Charles W. Campbell Min
Henry Blinn, Carrie & George W. Chambers & Nannie Jones Wit.
Book J Page 100

There are several Ackermans in the book, so maybe Helen is the "local girl." There are Ackermans in the card index to early newspapers, but no Helen and no Albert, Helen, Lenna/Linna, or Grace Benson.

Perhaps the next step is to trace Albert's family and Helen Ackerman in the census records. From there we might be able to move to the city/county directories or find other accounts of the descendants. I hope you'll be able to find your living relatives - I'll try to help in a future trip to Carnegie Library in Boulder. It's just two blocks from my house, but only has evening hours on Mondays.

Regards,

- Karen

Death of James T. ACKERMAN

The Covina, California, Argus, of Auguest 12th contains the following in regard to the death of James T. ACKERMAN, formerly of Hygiene.
The death of Mr. James T. Ackerman, which occurred at his home on Azu?a avenue shortly after 8 o'clock on Monday morning. removes from our midst to his eternal reward, another of those sterling Christian characters whose passing away even at the ripe old age of 78 years leaves a void which cannot again be easily filled in our community.
Mr. Ackerman had been in ill health for a number of months, being a sufferer of Bright's disease but none except his medical adviser and the members of his family expected such a sudden termination of his illness.
The funeral services were conducted from the residence on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Isaac Jewell, pastor of the Covina Methodist Church, of which denomination he had been almost a life-long member. The remains wwere tenderly laid to rest in the Oakdale cemetery.
The deceased was a native of New York, being born in New York City June 23, 1827. In 1841 he moved to Wisconsin where he was united in marriage to Miss Uphima BROWER, and to this union eight children, six daughters and two sons, survive the deceased, Mrs. BENSON of Sacramento; Mrs. EDISON, Colorado; Mrs. HAMLIN my copy ends here, but there was more
