Whispers from the past! In the early 1950's I spent the summer in Hooper with my grandparents, and one of the men who was a friend of my grandfather was John Mishak. He, and I think his mother, lived in a small (even by my child standards) one story house west of Hooper. I remember that there was all kinds of used farm equipment and "stuff" at the house, and we never ate a meal there. The house would have been maybe 3-4 miles from Hooper, but certainly not close to Moffat. He had a great sense of humour, and actually was a pall bearer at my Grandfather's funeral. As far as I can remember he was not married, nor do I remember any conversations or visits with a brother.
Dave

I am researching the PEARCE surname. Zebulon Clark's mother was Amanda Abigail "Abbie" Pearce, b. 1/17/1857 @ Lee Co., MS, d. 11/24/1916 @ Conejos Co., CO. She was the sixth child of my great grandfather, Zebulon Pearce and Zebulon's first wife, Rebecca Cudd.
Amanda married Benjamin Clark in MS and had one child, Zebulon Clark, b. 3/23/1879 @ Lee Co., MS.
For some unknown reason, Amanda went to Colorado with her child and on 4/3/1880, Amanda married Salvador Chavez.
Amanda and Salvador had ten children.

Conejos County Divorce Records - 07/31/1899 - 09/20/1915:
"Mandy Abigail Chaves and Salvador Chaves" - no date listed.

The 1900 census records show Amanda and Salvador to be divorced and listed as living in separate residences. Looks like they each have a few of their children living with them.

Please contact me at japis@sbcglobal.net.

Joe A.
I am aware of 2 cemeteries in Alamosa. One is the Alamosa Municipal Cemetery located at 2150 State Avenue,
Alamosa, CO 81101. The other is the Alamosa Spanish Cemetery which was founded in 1913, I know the location but do not have the address handy at this time.

There is no public listing of burials for the Municipal Cemetery that I am aware of. I do know that a few genealogists, including myself, are looking to work on such a listing. I have plans to walk the cemetery in the next couple of months and will be happy to search for your family, if you would like.

Regards,
Cynthia Martinez Monroe

I did a little more checking and this is what I found for Pedro Martinez of Alamosa, Colorado

From WWI Draft Reg Card
Pedro Martinez, born: April 14, 1897, born in Alamosa, Colorado
Father’s birthplace: San Luis, Costilla County, Colorado

In 1930, he is listed in the US Federal Census as living in Alamosa, Colorado with the following household:
Pedro Martinez, age 32
Carmel Martinez, age 31
Saraida Martinez, age 10
Ben Martinez, age 6
Frank Martinez, age 1

In 1920, Pedro and Carmel is found in the US Federal Census as living in Alamosa, Colorado, next door to an Antonio D. Martinez, age 51, wife Petra, 49 and John, age 21
It is very likely that this is his father and mother.

In 1910, a Pedro Martinez is listed as 13 years old, son of Antonio and Petra Martinez, living in San Pedro, Costilla County, Colorado as a part of the following household:
Antonio Martinez, born: circa 1867
Petra Martinez, born: circa 1873
Dolceania Martinez, born: circa 1894
Pedro, born circa: 1897
Donscio Martinez, born circa 1899
Leon Martinez – Antonio’s brother
Bartolo Lovato, brother in law, age 60
Delfino Martinez, brother, age 7
I come from a line of Martinez' in Alamosa, though Pedro C. Martinez is not familiar to me. The following website has some valuable information on Alamosa residents:

http://alamosaco.homestead.com/resource.html
I found the following:
11/3/19 Alamosa Martinez, Pedro C. Alamosa Martinez, Carmela Alamosa Witnesses: Jesus M. Jaramillo & Ceniada deJaramillo

I'll do some more research in a few days and send you what I have.

Good luck.
Cynthia

If you are in the Alamosa area, you can visit the local library and find numerous old obituaries in a photo album book. I found several from the 1930s during a recent visit. You can also contact Adams State College and ask for a search of Alamosa newspapers. The college maintains all archived newspaper articles.

Good luck.

Maybe it was supposed to be Hezekiah Borden instead of Josiah? I know it says Josiah, but there was a Perry David Borden who married in 1927 to Emma Somerville. He was a widower at the time. Did you see reference to the four brothers thanking the community for searching for their father?

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canbrnep/jun011898.htm

Failing that, maybe Delancy Borden's first name began with "P"?

Steve

In 1901 Rachel Isabel Mulholland was born to parents Elgin McCormick Mulholland and his wife Olive Helms Mulholland. Olive is the sister to my great grandfather. With the help of a kind woman from Washington State, we were guided to Isabel's father's name. Elgin McCormick Mulholland. He was born in Alleghney County, Pennsylvania in 1872. We are trying to find a record of his death. We believe he may have died in Yakima County, Washington, or Zapato,Colorado. Beth found the family in the 1900 census of Hooper Town, Costillo, Colorad or in neither place.

Any leads or help with locating his death between 1900-1910 would be appreciated. If you can look in the deaths between these years in your area and let us know if there is an entry for his name.

My school records show that Wilma b-26 Sep 1930 CO MO KY started Hooper school in 1937 for only one year. Manford b-26 Sep 1921 MO MO KY was in the Hooper School the seventh grade in 1937. There is an indication that Wilma went to school in Mosca in 1938. I have given all my records to the School in Mosca. The birth data is the same as you have in your Ancestry.com Public member tree. In 1930 Vern lived near Ray Holland which means he was near the Hooper School District and probably had an address of Center CO.

The history book has been revised to include Mosca and has the Hooper data section deleted. None of your family was in the data section. The CD requires that you have Microsoft Word 2003 or later. Otherwise you can order printed book from the Mosca Pit Stop, 5305 N Hwy 17. Mosca, Colorado 81146.

Hello, I am doing some research on my family, I was wondering if any one remembers Paul and Rita Klaumann? My father James Klaumann attended school in Hooper and had a brother Bernard that was a year older than him. Bernard was put in a State home when he was 12 I think. The home burned down and all records were lost. If anyone knows anything I would appreciate it very much.

Hurd/Dawson :Look up

I have traced Addie May/Mae Hurd Dawson to the 1900 census living in Mosca,Costilla Co. Colorado. She was divorced in Michigan and using her maiden name,Hurd, at that time. In that census record , it says she was born in Nebraska, but she really was born in michigan 1875. I haven't been able to find her since. Wondered if she would show up in a new article. I know her parents and a sister Lena lived in the area of Mosca. Her parents were Julius and Lucia Hurd. Other sibblings went to oregon.
Would you please look in the records you have listed for her about 1900 or after?
Carol in Michigan
