Obits for Richard and Nancy J. Talbott Cheatham

I am looking for obits for my great-great grandparents. They lived in the LosBanos/Merced area after migrating from KY at the end of the Civil War. If my info is correct, they both died prior to 1925,
I know their eldest son William T. Cheatham is buried in Los Banos, with his wife, Mary Belle Green Cheatham, so I'm supposing their may have been a Cheatham family plot. William died in the late 1920's and Mary died after 1934, but before 1942.
Any assistance will be appreciated.

My great-great-grandfather, Nicholas Bibby, owned several acres of land in Los Banos in the 1880s. He had 11 children. His son, Samuel, was my great-grandfather.

I'd like to know when he bought the land, how many acres there were, how long it was in the family before it was sold off.

Also, my grandfather (Oliver Bibby) mentioned to me years ago that his grandfather, Samuel, was a councilman or something similar in the area in the late 1800s. He was a blacksmith, according to my late grandfather.

I'd appreciate any information you could swing my way.

Thank you.

Julie Hoyt

Thomas Lough-Mary Ann Nicholson; Robert E. Conner

Hello. Seeking information on what became of the Lough Family.

In the 1860 census,
Thomas and Mary A. "Lowe" are enumerated in Township 2, along with their children, all of whom were born in Indiana (presumably Elkhart County, IN).

In the next household, Robert Conner is enumerated. He is Mary Lough's nephew.

Family letters indicate that Robert was living in Merced Falls in Jan 1861 and that he moved to Idaho in 1862.

The Lough family apparently remained in Merced county, for daughter Adaline married Addison Tower on 3 Feb 1863 in Snelling.

A Conner family letter written in April 1868 asserts that mother Mary Ann (Nicholson) Lough had died in California.

In 1870, father Thomas Lough appears in the census, married to Lucretia and living in O'Neal, San Joaquin county.

Would like to know whether anyone has a specific death date for Thos or Mary Ann Lough, or whereabouts for other children: Elizabeth, William, Mary Jane, Sophrona, Emeline, Juliet, and Irene F.

Happy to exchange information.
Debian

This might include court docs. or write-ups in hist. references or county histories. Is the home he had still standing or the farm still operational? Any help getting started is appreciated.
My great grandmother was born in 1892 in Arkansas. I knew her as Grandma Honey. I believe her birth name was Mary E King. She died in June 1977.

Her daughter was Velma Irene Honey who married Reuben Charles Jones. After he died, she married Robert Keane. She died in 1992. I know Velma had a sister named Elsie and one possibly named Mamie.

Velma had five children: Wayne, Vita, Clinton, Patricia and Doris.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. RMAMARTINEZ@YAHOO.COM

There he changed his name to Edward WILCOX, obtained citizenship in 1915, and drafted in WW1, and was living in Merced. The 1920 Census still has him living in Merced as a mechanic for Mr.Miller. The 1930 Census has him living in Oregon, being married for 2 years to Georgia b.1903, California. In 1938 he was living in Motor City, Placerville, California, and was given Social Security No.546 16 5790. He died 1962, Alameda, California.

I'm trying to find any information on his wife or children(?). Some years ago an email was received from an American woman who may have been related to him, but her details were lost shortly thereafter, and contact lost.

What I'm trying to do is to find my father I had gotten information that he died in Tifton but I'm unable to fined an obit on him, I have tried the local newspapers with no luck. My records shows that he died Aug. 20th,1980 (If this is him)His name was Jerry Watson and he was born Feb.13th ,1920. I was about 8-9 years old when he left and I'm 48 now and have been looking for him for alot of years, and this is the closest I've ever gotten and I'm hopeing that this is him. I'm also working on our family history and found out that his father (my grandfather) is Buried here in Fort Wayne IN. and his name was Farris Watson and he died in 1948. I emailed the local paper ther in Tifton to see if they could check the obit archives but never got a
responce from them. I would like to come to Tifton just to see what I could come up with, the social security death index shows that his last benefit was sent to Tifton GA. He also lived in California (San Diego area), for alot of years I have this very strong feeling that I need to find him Dead or alive, if you can help me please respond to this posting, I have alot of old photo's of old family members and my father..

I just need to know the other side of my family (the Watson's)

I have two email addresses that you can reach me at
1. larry.watson@fwcs.k12.in.us
2. lasher48@aol.com

Thanks

My great-great-great grandfather was Michael McMahon. He was the born on December 9, 1852 in Algiers, Louisiana (formally known as New Orleans). and died January 23, 1929. Michael McMahon is the son of Michael McMahon and Catherine Welsh.

Michael McMahon married Emma Louise Brownlee on March 31, 1880. They had nine children: Edward John McMahon, Charles Michael McMahon, Mary Catherine McMahon, William James McMahon, Emma Elizabeth McMahon, Estelle McMahon, Albert McMahon, Stanly McMahon, and Leslie W. McMahon.

I was told that Michael McMahon’s parents Michael McMahon and Catherine Welsh both came from Ireland. After their son Michael was born, they headed west to California. They left their son with Catherine’s sister Bridget Welch Foran before heading west. Bridget Welch Foran and her husband ran a boarding house in New Orleans (Algiers) on Elmira Street.

How would I go about getting information on Michael McMahon's parents Michael and Catherine? I have no dates nor clues to go on.

He was 65 when he accidentally drove his car north into the path of southbound traffic on US 99 just outside of Atwater.
Local people have still a fresh recollection of Schell's brother Herman who died not long ago.

Virginia Cambie (1908-1973) was left in Los Angeles to work as a domestic/nanny with an understanding family when her other family moved back to BC, Canada in the 1930's. Virginia was developmentally delayed but was believed to be a sweet and loving person. I would dearly like to find out how to locate descendents of that family who took care of Virginia, and see if they have photos, etc. Other sources of CA information would be welcome, too.
I am her niece and never met her, or even knew of her existence until very recently. Any help deeply appreciated.

(Note: The date was Dec. 3, 1936, not Nov. 3, 1936. The newspaper evidently went to press with the wrong date.)

Gustine Standard [Gustine, CA.]
Novemeber 3, 1936 (Dec. 3, 1936)

Final Rites Held For Henry Knight Former Resident

Final rites for Henry Knight, former resident of Gustine where he made his home for more than 20 years prior to moving to Modesto about four years ago, were conducted by Romero Lodge I. O. O. F. of this city at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Newman Monday afternoon. The beautiful and impressive Odd Fellow ritualistic burial service was recited by Thos. Stamper and Fulton Bambauer, members of Romero Lodge. Interment was at Newman I. O. O. F. cemetery.

Mr. Knight passed away at his home on the Tully Road near Modesto last Friday morning, following a long illness which had kept him bedfast for the past year or more. Surviving are his wife Anna, and two sons, Cecil Knight of Modesto and Wendell Knight of Riverbank.

Mr. Knight was a native of Sonoma county, California, aged 70 years at the time of death. He came to the San Joaquin Valley when but a small child and to Gustine in 1908, being one of the earliest pioneer residents of this city. While residing here, he took an active interst in all civic affairs, and those who knew him honesty and sincerity in whatever he undertook. He was affiliated with A. D. Davenport and E. Kingsley in the discovery and development of the now weel-known Bald Eagle Magnesite mine located about 15 miles west of Gustine in the Quinto creek canyon, and it was throught the sale of this property to California Chemical company that he was permitted to enjoy a few brief years of rest as old age came on. Four years ago he moved with his family to Modesto, and it was there that death came to claim him.

Many folks throughout this district will regret the passing of one of the city's beloved old-time residents. May he rest in peace.

Transcribed by Alma Stone

My grandfather, John Philip Davis, died about 1925. My father, Harry Vernon, age 16, quit school to support his mom, Grace Alice Phillips Davis, but I don't know what happened to his two sisters, Helen and Dorothy, who were 14 and 12 yrs at the time. Was there an orphanage in Merced county they could have been sent to? Dad never mentioned either girl to anybody in our family, so I believe he lost track of them. Their mother died in 1930. Help!
