I am looking into Kuster as well. I know my great aunt Wilma Bird, nee Hutchinson's mother was Kuster, but I came across a grave on FindAGrave in Marysville, Lofton cemetery. This particular individual is of greatest interest to me.... George Augustus Bird Kuster. 1814-July 1 1889. The name stands out like a sore thumb for 2 reasons- first, the fact that his name is listed the same as women's maiden names are listed, Bird in Italics, and Kuster as the Final sur name. Since he was male, this is not a maiden name, but an alias of some sort?
The second thing, is his name. Without Kuster. It is the same name as my great uncle who married Wilma Hutchinson, who is also buried at Lofton, as well as the exact name of my great grandfather, George Augustus Bird Sr. 1890-1950, buried in Sierra View, Olivehurst. Both men died in Marysville.
I can't find any connection to this Kuster (Bird) man to the Kuster family of The Hutchinsons, OR my Bird family. UNLESS he was the ACTUAL grandfather of George Bird Sr. Who we can find no info on either, that presumably died in the Yuba area. We have him down as Harry or Henry Crook Bird Sr. Born around 1818 in England, and he must have died between 1860 and 1900, because his wife, Carolyn, appears in SF as a widow on the 1900 census, and oldest daughter was born 1861 in Placerville. He could have died before her birth. Henry or Harry Crook Bird Jr., was born prob in Placerville, 1856.
Who is this George Augustus Bird Kuster? Why does he have 2 last names? Who were his kin? Where did he come from? Why was there a name change? Who is he buried with?
Would love to sit around the fire and listen to the lore...
