I am wondering if patient lists exist for Bromley's Sanitarium in Sonora for early 1900 (1905-1920). I am looking for where an individual may have gone if she had been diagnosed with TB and had lived in Tuolumne in 1905. Also, if a child was to have been placed into an orphanage around 1910 and her father lived in Tuolumne, where would she have most likely been placed? What were the closet orphanages to the Tuolumne area for this time period?

My grandparents, WILLIAM ARTHUR NOLAND and MAY BEATRIX HEAD, were married in Sonora, CA on March 31, 1907. They had at least 5 children and lived primarily in Tuolumne County, including Jamestown. (They did move to Oakdale, Stanislaus Co. around 1920.) They divorced sometime around 1924/5 and May died sometime around 1934/6. I know VERY LITTLE about May Beatrix Head, and would like ANY INFO on her divorce or death. (I already have info on William.) Thanks!

John Miller's arrest in 1896

A newspaper clipping in Calaveras Co. dated 1/18/1896 states that John Miller was charged with the murder of Mose Defoor and had his preliminary examination on Wednesday of the previous week in Sonora before Justice Cooper. This sounds like the trial would have been in Sonora. Does Tuol. Co have their old criminal trial records available? Would there be any access to local papers that might have some news item on this murder charge?

A John Miller from Calaveras Co. was accused of murdering Moses Defoor somewhere around the end of 1895 or January of 1896. He had his preliminary examination in Sonora Superior court some time around the second week of January 1896. Does anyone have access to look up this murder trial and let me know if it further identifies which John Miller this was and what happened?

For those who are descendents of Chief William "Bill" Fuller. Here is his biography that he did in the Pacific Historian.

His father was Albert Fuller who was German-Irish.

His mother was Jenita a Chilean Indian, who came from the royal family. Her half-brother was Charlie Moximo, leader of the Miwok people.

Chief Fuller was born in the Lockeford - Clements area just east of Lodi California.

In an interview Moximo stated that he and his people worked at Sutter's fort.

The ledger of A G Black mentioned above was also a ledger for the Ferguson Mine located in Big Oak Flat area. I believe John Hite was either the owner of one of the owners of that mine. He was "married" to Maria Lebrado who was the last yosemite indian. He later married legally another woman(white) and there was a huge divorce case that ensued in San Francisco. Mr Inches name appears very often in this ledger. Please email me if you would like further info on this or my other posts. I have lots of history on the Inch, Burden,Segerstrom Family.

Leanna Donner App, Last Donner Party Survivor, Succumbs

Saturday 31 May 1930 Sonora Union Democrat, Page One
--
The Last Of The Donner Family
--
With the passing of Mrs. Leanna Charity Donner-App, which occurred at the old home place below Jamestown, where she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Burrell, late Thursday afternoon, removes from this earthly sphere the last of the Donner family, members of the ill-fated Donner party, that tragedy of tradegies, where a large number of emigrants after reaching Donner Lake were snowed in for the winter. Untold suffering was their lot, and by the time rescue parties reached them but few remained to tell of the horrible experiences they had endured.
Mrs. App was one of the survivors. She had not yet reached her teens but everything was so impressed on her that her mind was ever clear on all the happenings of that dreadful winter.
[The] deceased was born in Illinois and at the time of her death was 95 years of age, she being born Dec. 5, 1834, and has been a resident of this county for 78 years. She leaves one son, John Q. App, of Quartz, and two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Burrell of the old home place, and Mrs. J.D. Heiskell, who resides in Tulare. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will take place from the home that has been hers for 78 years, Sunday at 2 o'clock P.M. under the auspices of the International Bible Students, and will be conducted by W.B. O'Beirne. The interment will be made in the Jamestown City cemetery.
--

How is the motor? Sincerely, J. Marx, Tuolumne"

The photo is of two men in front of an industrial-looking shed. Is this name familiar to anyone?

Is there anyone out there that lives in or near Tuolumne and Carter's Cemetary that could take a couple pictures of tombstones for me. Living there you might be able to find them. I am handicapped and tried to find them the two times I was there and there was no luck.I checked with Joyce Crawford and she said ones location was Old section 1--Plot 8--Row 10 (Arthur Salmon) and the other one I haven't found is Harlon Loving (He's on the chart) but I cannot figure out how things are laid out. My family is mostly in the old section on top but that hasn't helped and I won't be back until maybe the spring to even try again.
HELP PLEASE!! can send a disposable camera or pay for any pictures if you have to go get some for someone else.

Can anyone tell me anything about a former hotel/lodging facility known as the Turnback Inn? An old postcard that I found with an RPO postmark of 1908 shows a very large two-story building with verandas all around. All that is noted on the face of the card is "Turnback Inn, Tuolumne, Cal." Where might I get more information on this building and its original location?

Many thanks!
