TOUROT in Trinity County

Have some information on Charles, Pierre, and Elisa TOUROT who settled in old Trinity County circa 1855, and am looking for more. The museum at Weaverville sent me some things, and I found a lot of other information in Upstate New York and in France.

Elisa married a man named ESTES and remained in California.

Charles is said to have remained a bachelor.

Both seem to have died in California, I would like to know when and where they are buried, and if there are any descendants.

Pierre TOUROT was born in Bavans, Doubs, France, in 1836, son of Pierre Frederic TOUROT and Marie BEUCLER; he returned to upstate New York where he died. Distant cousins in France have traced this line (which they share) back to about 1700 and the family name back to before 1500.

Spelling variations sometimes seen are TOURO, TURO, THOUROT, and there may be connections with TOURDOT.

I am searching for information on John W Owen who in 1930 was living in Trinity Center, he was a divorced miner and I know that he was killed in a mining accident, but do not know the date. Margeret (Margaret) Conway born in Ireland (1833-?)

They had the following children;
Peter D. Smith (1870-?) born CA married to Mary E. ?
Lucy Smith (1872-1958) born CA married to James R. Murphy they lived in Redding
Eleanor "Ella" Smith (1875-1922) born CA, married Ernest Hays, lived Woodland, Yolo
Henry Caswell Smith (1876-?) born CA, married Mary ?

Michael's mother remarried in CA to Henry Caswell from Lake and Shasta counties.

I have all the census information possible other than 1860. I feel like I'm digging in the Smith "haystack" looking for that one needle that I can run with.
Looking for any local information on Michael's parents or his death, his wifes location.

I am looking for more information on the George W. Todd family who were located in Junction City in the 1870 thru 1910 census. Wife was Martha F. (Rawlff) Todd. Daughter Augusta Mabella Todd married John Dixon Cope Day in California and returned with him to Illinois after 1880.
George died sometime between 1876 and 1880. Martha was still listed in Junction City in 1910. Family history has that they owned a hotel in Junction City.

I am looking for any information on the family of James Goodrich. James was born July 04, 1850, Indiana. He lived in Iowa from 1860 to 1887 when he relocated to California. In 1900 he was in Lake, Siskiyou Co., CA. James died October 06, 1917, Weaverville, Trinity Co., CA. James married Mary Roach and they had two children; Charles, born Abt. 1879 and Andrew born about Abt. 1880. Children were born in IA and Mary died in IA. James then married Lottie Wright and they had six children. Known children are Alice, Murray and Guy Edward Goodrich. Guy die in Trinity Co., CA 1953. Camped in the campground and worked nearby during the early 60's. Harry & Noni were in the process of selling their bar and cafe to a young man from Southern CA.
Just this week came by but all is changed and I would like to locate pictures of their business with the old gas pump and service station in front of bar.
As near as I can tell this is now the Trinity River Adventures business and the present owners have no knowledge of the origins.

Harry and Noni are both buried in Kingman AR but I remember them as vibrant and active people.

Any help and/or photos would certainly be appreciated.

He was the brother of John Wilson (1861-1928) who lived and farmed in Santa Rosa for many years. The 84-year-old son of John Wilson would like to know what happened to his Uncle Andrew while working for the railroad after crossing the continent to Trinity County.

I'm looking for anyone with a connection to William J. SCOTT, born 1834 in KY. He appears in Trinity County, CA in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses, as a miner.

In 1882, he married Anna K. (maiden name unknown). She was born in Illinois in 1857. They had a number of children including: Nellie J., William Irvin, Leland Stanford, Edwin M., and Linton H. They lived together in Lewiston.

William J. SCOTT died between 1910 and 1920, but Anna is still alive at the time of the 1920 census.

His Grandfather was Dwight Nalton married to Vivan Sisk and his Father was Albert Nalton and was married to Ida George, and his father was Geroge Nalton and they were wintu from Hay Fork, Trinity, Ca. I did find that Sara and Dwight lived with George in 1920 per Federal Census. Sara was 20 and Dwight was 13. There is a Grace Nalton that married Frank Mckibbin.

Updating this query with new e-mail. Interested in any leads about the following.

Interested if anyone has any info or knowledge of several of my grandparents who visited the South Fork Trinity River area in the 1900 to 1930 time period.

They were: Winfield Hale
Idolene Hale (or Idolene Crosby)

They had a mining claim on the river above Forest Glen and later my father owned Charlie St. Jaques mining claim for 4-5 years in the late 1940's.

In the teens, my grandfather (Winfield) and grandmother (Idolene) would come up and stay with the Bramlets or the Randolphs. My grandfather used to fly his airplane up to this area in the early 1920's.

If anyone has any information or early photos, I would appreciate hearing from you. Any information about Charlie Bramlets property up the South Fork of the Trinity would be appreciated as well.

Most have been found in Shasta, but I found Harrison Raglan, James Raglan and Thomas Raglan in Trinity. (Mad River, 1910 Census) All were married to Native Americans. I am trying to piece together the Native American part. Raglans came to California in 1854 so the time period could be anything after that. Help is greatly appreciated--thanks.

My great-grandfather was Julius Kazinsky, sometimes written as Kaczinsky in the early records. He was in Weaverville, Trinity somewhere between 1872 and 1885 as a dry goods merchant, although later he was a grocer. He had had 3 children by the 1880 Census. About 1883 he had a daughter, who would be my grandmother's older sister, but I have had trouble finding out her name. If anyone could find out anything about Julius, his wife Rachel or especially the daughter, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Still looking for information about the family of George W. Todd, born 1831 in Indiana, died 1878 in Junction City, Trinity County. George W. Todd was married to Martha (Rawlf/Ralph?) and had four children: Augusta Mabella, b. 1863; William Dayborn, b. 1868; Annie Laura, b. 1869; and Hettie/Nettie, also b. 1869. George and Martha Todd's oldest daughter, Augusta Mabella, married John D. C. Day and eventually moved with her husband to Illinois, his state of origin. George W. Todd and his wife Martha are buried in the Weaverville Cemetery. George W. Todd and later his son-in-law, John D. C. Day, operated the Carter House Hotel in Junction City.

I need an obit from local papers and / or any info that the funeral home records may contain on a LE ROY COURSEY ( mortuary warrant ).
Death occured 1-11-1950 in Burnt Ranch , Trinity Co. , Ca.
Burial was not until 1-27-1950 because of bad weather that year.
Burial was in Weaverville Cemetery handled by McDonald - Files Funeral Home.
If anyone knows of his whereabouts in the Weaverville Cemetery I'd love to have a photo of his marker and surroundings. I was told he has a WWI tombstone marker but not for sure .

I want to know if the Judge sailed on that ship. A C. Edwin Williams in listed as a passenger. He was allegedly married to Rosalie Overbey Williams who returned to Virginia upon the Judge's death. Human bones in Trinity River 1920

I'm wondering if there is an archive of local Trinity newspapers anywhere from the early 1920s, and if possible someone do this lookup. Back in the early 1980s the remains of an unidentified male (probably a prospector) was found in the Trinity River by gold prospectors. The coronor stated that this man died in the early 1920s and was probably over 6' tall. I would love to see if there were any reports of missing persons from period newspapers.

Not a whole lot is known about his person. As the later prospectors were dredging the river, they found a gold tooth, numerous coins, the remains of a belt, boots, rivets from pants, a wallet with a one half dollar gold coin, a pocket watch with the intials P.C. on the back and human bones from the lower part of his body. The skull and upper part of the body was never recovered.

After all this time it would be great to give this individual an identity and possibly a family.

I have done a good deal of work on the Carr family of Trinity County. We came to the county from: New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Indiana, and Iowa. My line settled in Red Bluff, circa 1870 and came to Trinity County around 1874.Obviously, I belong to the Carr line. Pedigree = Ken Carr B; 1944, Robert Henry Carr B: 1911, Alexander Constantine Carr B: 1852, Hiram Henry Carr B: 1820, William Carr B: 1783.
I am now branching out to the related lines as my surname list indicates. If anyone has information on those folks as it relates to my Carrs', it would be appreciated. I will be happy to share what I have. I am very interested in any photos, or correspondence that include Carrs or references to Carrs that may be available. I will gladly pay reproduction costs.

I am looking for information about the family of George W. Todd, born 1831 in Indiana, died 1878 in Junction City, Trinity County. George W. Todd was married to Martha Rawlf and had four children: Augusta Mabella, b. 1863; William, b. 1868; Annie Laura, b. 1869; and Hettie/Nettie, also b. 1869. George and Martha Todd's oldest daughter married John D. C. Day and eventually moved with her husband to Illinois, his state of origin. George W. Todd and his wife Martha are buried in the Weaverville Cemetery. It is believed that the descendents of William Todd and his sister, Annie Laura, may still live in Trinity County.

My Grandparents, Frank Rose Martin (b. 30 JUL 1892, Azores; d. 22 JAN 1955, Boston, MA) and Rose Paulino Costa (b. 15 MAR 1897, Azores, d. 28 JUL 1847, Boston, MA) were married , I believe, in Helena, CA, around 1915 or 1916. They had a son, Frank Rose Martin (b. 28 AUG 1916, California, d. 14 AUG 1997, Richmond, VA), who I believe was born in or around Helena. I have heard that Rose Costa had family in California, perhaps involved in grape or nut farming. Does anyone know when or where they were married or where their son was born?

Some of the gold miners from Jo Daviess Co, IL came to California between 1850-52 in the Gold Rush. My Henry Vincent died there, possibly in Weaverville, as I have info that other JD county people were there. Possibly came with son, William and his wife, Eliza and small son. Wm and Eliza ran a boarding house whereever they were until 1852 when returned to Illinois. Any info would be helpful. Are there cemetaries, mortality lists for this period? Thanks in advance.

in the 1880 census for canon city, trinity H.J. name is Harp. In 1900 he is living with the Price family in Rhonerville as a father in law, and with his daughter Bertha Price who is Price's wife. His name is Harberd as spelled on the census. He is Buried in Hydesville with an unmarked grave as Herbert James. On the family search (Mormon) website it shows a Herbert James with the same birth date / age the family being from Virginia and he being born last in family Arkansas. Location of Hayfork Cemetery

In making plans to visit Hayfork and the cemetery I noticed there seemed to be no information on line as to how to get to this old cemetery.

I was lucky to find a phone number of someone from the Cemetery Association. He was able to tell me how to get there. I just got back from there and wanted to share with anyone interested how to get there.

I traveled west on 299 from Redding until and took a left onto Hwy 3 going south. There are several miles of extremely windy roads so don't be in a hurry! Once in the town of Hayfork the hwy will curve to the south (you will see an LDS church on the right. Continue until you get to Old Morgan Hill Rd and make a left. On your right hand side you will see a CalTrans maintenance yard. A bit further and over a small bridge and Hayfork cemetery will be on your right. It is at the corner of Old Morgan Hill Road and Kingsbury Road.

John's fathers name Pierce Trimble. One known brother, Billy Trimble. Also want information on John's spouse Sarah Louise Wilson, born abt 1887 died about 1920. It is possible that they might be buried in Barstow, Ca. John Trimble was in the sawmill business in Trinity County, Calif. in 1916. Possibly around Hayfork, Junction City or Weaverville. My ancestor John Ewing had a brother, Joseph Ewing, born in Kirkmackbreck Scotland June 4 1821, emigrated to Durham, Quebec, Canada in 1837, and who died in Hayfork California March 6th 1877 at age 56. Apparently he had two daughters, Henrietta Ewing (unsure if ever married) and Emma Ewing Walker. Am looking for any of their descendants. We live in California now, but our Ewing family all lived in Quebec except for Joseph Ewing and a later relative Rev. Will Ewing born in the 1870s who moved to Claremont.

Rumfelt's in Trinity Center 1800's

I found Augustus Rumfelt and his family, living in Trinity Center in the 1880 census and in the Trinity County, 1885 directory listed on the internet. 1880 Census has wife, Josephine, son, Clarence age 4, daughter, Bessie age 2. I found him again in the 1910 and 1920 censuses, living in Oakland, Alameda Co.I would like to know if he was in the 1870 and 1900 censuses in Trinity Center or if he had moved to Oakland, I can't seem to find him in 1870 or 1900. I found Clarence in 1900 in Shasta Twp. and Walter in 1900 in Redding Twp. In the 1910 census it stated that Josephine had 7 children and 6 living. I can't find any more than those three mentioned above. In 1910 census, Walter had a wife and a daughter, Roberta May Rumfelt age 4, I have no clue as to where she ended up either. If Augustus had more than one girl, then I have no clue as to their married names. If anyone has any information on this Rumfelt family, please help me. I am hitting a brick wall, Thanks bunches.

The old Koll Ranch was in Trinity County and the Kolls moved there in 1873. I think Bertha's mothers name was Winnie or Winifred Hall and her fathers name was John.

Can someone please tell me how to find information on a drowning that occurred in the Trinity River sometime in 1952-1953? Is there a particular newspaper that may have published the story, obituary, etc? I believe this person's first name was Carl and he was in the Navy, stationed in Seattle and had come home to visit his family in Hoopa Valley. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

an attorney to George Gordon's parents giving
description of his death. He also stated that the
account was in newspaper.

Part of this letter is missing but, he was involved
in a shooting of Indians that had taken mules and
stepped in to shoot one individual and was shotby another shooter.

Looking for historical information and/or descendents of my great-great-grand uncle, Harman Schloemer (or Schlomer).

1.Harman Schloemer was born on 31 Jul 1825 in Lubbersfehn ?, East Friesland, Germany. He died on 12 Mar 1898 in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA. He was buried in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA.

Name on Naturalization paper is Herman. Was the first of three brothers to come to U.S in 1852. Was a blacksmith in New Orleans, LA, St. Louis, MO and finally settled in North Fork, Trinity Co., CA. In 1854, he crossed the Plains to CA -- a six month trip. Was Naturalized on 16 Dec 1858.

Harman married Louisa Weinheimer about 14 Sep 1860 in Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL. Louisa was born on 14 Feb 1841 in Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL. She died on 14 Jul 1925 in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA. She was buried in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA.

They had the following children:

5 M iv. Henry Grant Schloemer was born on 23 May 1865 in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA. He died on 21 Nov 1956 in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA. He was buried in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA.

Death certifcate #319560073 filed on Nov. 26, 1956.

6 F v. Louise "Louisa" Schloemer was born on 30 Mar 1871 in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA. She died on 14 Mar 1957 in San Francisco, San Francisco Co., CA.

7 M vi. Christian Schloemer was born in 1873 in North Fork (now Helena), Trinity Co., CA.
