I am searching for information on John W Owen who in 1930 was living in Trinity Center, he was a divorced miner and I know that he was killed in a mining accident, but do not know the date. I am assuming he was buried near there and wonder if anyone has any information on this man. Any help would be appreciated or if someone could give the name of a searcher who could look for an obiturary for me. Thank you

is this the John owens you need information on? I was trying to look on the california death index for you but need to narrow it down some as that seems to be a very popular name. If you could get a death date the RAOGK group could look up the obituary for you.

Thank you for your help, yes the one who died on the 4th of June is the one I believe to be him. In the 1930 census records he gave the birth place of both of his parents as being in Vermont. Supposedly he died in a mining accident, he listed his occupation as a miner in a placer mine. He was married to Florence "Daisy" Clarke of Trinity Center for one or two years and had one son. Florence's father was Robert T Clarke who married a Wintuin Indian lady by the name of Ellen Tauhindauli. He lived in Eastern Oregon briefly. Thank you.

Yes, this is the John W Owen he was born 22 Feb 1879 and married the 21 Aug 1903, he was only married about 3 and a half or four years to a Florence "Daisy" Clarke of Trinity Center. He died on the 4 Jun 1943, we were told of a mining accident. Florence was a half Wintuin Indian and her parents were Robert T Clarke (Clark) and her Mother was Ellen Tauhindauli. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Dolores Young dlyoung@ortelco.net

I volunteer in the Trinity County Museum and History Center and I have seen that name in our records. Would you like me to see what we have on file?

Betty; This isn't directly a John Owen question, but since you seem to have some Owen resources I thought I would try you for my query;
Thomas Owens, a pioneer of 1843, was born in Tazewell county, Virginia, January 12, 1808. He died at Piety Hill, California, in 1873, July 23d. Now according to his daughter that is in Trinity Co, but I don't find a piety hill anywhere in California. So first of all is there such a place in Trinity Co and is that where Thomas Was buried.

Hello,

Piety Hill was a mining town in Shasta Co., CA, which is directly east of Trinity County and in the farthest northern point of the Sacramento Valley, at the convergence of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. and the Cascade Range. The name Piety Hill is no longer used and the name of the town has been changed to Igo,CA, which is a very small town in the southwestern part of Shasta Co., CA. Google Igo and you can find a map showing its' location. Hope this helps. From local lore, the town was named after some elderly woman whose home town was Piety Hill, MI, who was a resident in the old mining town.

Sincerely,
David Anderson

Thanks for clearing that up, obviously I won't find much about him in the Trinity co info. I did try USGS locator for the name Piety hill and it returned Igo, but I wasn't sure if I was on the right track. Now I know.
Thanks again.
