I received this in the mail and thought you may be interested.

"Yuba City: Our Home Town-This coffee table quality, hardbound book weaves the stories of Yuba City from a Native American village on the banks of the Feather River, through its settlement in July 1849, its incorporation as a city in 1908, and up to the present. Historic photographs, vintage newspaper articles, and memories of its first citizens bring the stories alive."

Strather BUCKINGHAM was born 12 Jul 1881 in Mills Co, IA, a son of John L. & Amanda [CONNER] BUCKINGHAM; family moved to Hermosa, SD abt 1885; to Sutter Co, CA abt 1896. Unable to locate Strather with family in 1900 or 1910 Census. He is listed in 1920 Sutter Co. census with his wife Ivy, and family, and in 1930 Alameda Co census with his family. Does anybody have a clue about where he might have been in the two missing years. I have checked Sierra Co with his sister Annie PERFIELD, and San Diego with his sister Margaret RITCHIE.

I am looking for any info on a Joseph HAWKINS who died in Sutter Co. on 7/1/1947. I have reason to believe that he could be the gg-grandfather of my daughter.

This is a strange story, but the Joseph John HAWKINS I am looking for was born on 10 Sep 1879 in Fannin Co., TX. He married and had 2 daughters, but disappeared from Kiowa, Pittsburg Co., OK in the 1920s. While browsing the ancestry.com WWII Draft Registrations, I came across a Joseph William HAWKINS in Sutter Co. The registration said he was born on 10 Sep 1889 in Fannin Co., TX. Even though the middle name is different and the b'day is exactly 10 years to the day different, I think the coincidence is very strange.

I am sending away for the deatch certificate. But in the meantime I thought I would ask on this board for a little help. Maybe an obit? Or other suggestions?

Gladys Pauline Coffman, 72, of Yuba City died Feb. 2, 2002, at her residence.
Born in Mortons Gap, Ky., she was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 30 years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Leanne Coffman and Vickie Coffman, both of Yuba City, and Paula Coffman Jones of Stockton; four sons, Mark Coffman of Marysville, Blaine Coffman of Reno, Nev., Robert "Bob" Coffman and Edward Coffman, both of Missoula, Mont.; four sisters, Art Goforth of Yuba City, Opal Popoff of Sheridan, Gay Logan of Aptos and June Staup of Whitman, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

I am looking at the counties surrounding Butte County in case the children were born outside of Butte County.

Can somebody lookup birth & or baptism records for me please. I am looking for my grandmothers side of the family. The last name they were using on the 1880 Census for Oregon City in Butte County in CA was FRANK. On the 1st 10 or so pages of this census it says City Of Cherokee. My family is Portuguese so there is a possibility they are using the last name spelled FRANCK, FRANCISCO, FRANCISCA, FRANCA, MARTIN OR HENRIQUES. Or the last name spelling starting with FRA. HENRIQUES is the maiden name of the mother Mary. I was told that Portuguese people usually didn't use there birth names when they came to the U.S., that is why I have given a few differant spellings. The mother & fathers names are Martin & Mary both born in Portugal or The Azores.

Here are the childrens names.

Frank, Frank (Yes they named one of there children Frank Frank) Born 1877
Manuel Born 1879 or 1880

There are possibly 4 other children that were born after the 1880 census. Josephine, Alice Rena & May/Mae and Martin. My grandmother Alice Rena Frank (Franck) married my grandfather Gus Foster Rowe approx. 1908.

I have been looking for my grandmothers side of the family for 14 months now with no luck. I am grasping at straws and loosing hope of ever finding them and would appreciate any help.

Leander Bloyd

Leander Bloyd born in IL March 8 1850, son of William and Lydia(THURBER) BLOYD. His father was a descendant of Scotch ancestry and was born and reared in KY.

In 1861 Leander's family came to CA when Leander was 11 years old. They settled in a farm in Sutter Co and stayed there 7 years, their three children attending school there.

Leander married Laura L. ROBINSON and in 1883 came to Tulare County and located on his present farm of eighty acres.

They had six children, three survived to adulthood: Clemmie,Jennie and Madella.

Mr. BLOYD was large, bieng six feet six inches tall and in 1865 he enlisted in Company A, First Oregon Calvalry, and served against the Indians, principally in WA and ID Territories,receiving an honorable discharge in Feb, 1869. He was only fifteen when he entered the service.

He is a member of the GAR and associated with the AOUW.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow for George L. Cozine,72, of 773 Chestnut St. Yuba City, who died Monday at Driftwood Manor Convalescent Hospital following a long illness.

A native of Watonga, Okla., he had lived in the Yuba-Sutter area for 34 years. He was a retired electrician and carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Virgie, of Yuba City; a son, Clarence, of Marysville; a daughter, Lona Palmer of Chico; a sister Roxanne Parnham of Whittier; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the American Funeral Home with Rev. Philip Hall of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Chico officiating. Burial will be in the Sutter Cemetery.

The grave of my Great-Great Grandfather and Grandmother has been vandalized and it appears that some pieces of the grave have been stolen. They are William and Sarah McMurtry. I have found information on Francis Keel Dees, who moved here from Harrison, Arkansas. He died March 21, 1965. He was the son on Peter Ryan Dees and Mary Frances McDonald. In the program for the funeral, Delia Dees and Ellen Hook are listed as relatives. I am looking for information on these people. Delia's maiden name was Hindman. Seeking information or descendants of Roderick McRae and Isabel Kirkwood Buckley who lived in Pleasant Grove around 1926. Children Helen, 1899 (m Green then Clenner), Bertha, 1901, Stephen, (worked on building Railroad) Florence, mabel and Donald. I have a letter written by Isabel to her uncle (my GGGrandfather) sent to Sydney, Australia in 1926. Bertha married to a pharmacist on USS Vestal and lived in Portsmouth, Virginia.

I am looking for information on the Gilbert and Nancy Crismon family that is listed in the 1880 census for Sutter county. Gilbert and Nancy are living in Sutter Co, California with their three youngest children. I would like to know when Gilbert and Nancy passed away and where they are buried and would like to know what became of their children. One of their children was my great, great grandmother. She had already moved out of the home and gotten married by the 1880 census. The two census before the 1880 the Crismon family lived in Applegate, Jackson, Oregon, my great, great grandmother Cordelia was still home with her family in those census. She got married in 1874 to Isaac Nichols in Eureka, CA. I can trace her from there but would like more info before that the marriage and any info on her family I can find. I am looking for an obituary on my aunt Abbie. I thought her last name when she passed was Richards, but could be Barlow. She died in Yuba City, Sutter Co., Calif, so it would have been in the Appeal-Democrat newspaper. She died on Oct 7, 1982. I no longer live in Calif or would do this myself at the Sutter Co. Library. Daughter Lidia Rosamond born 1875 in Sutter County, married Jack MALONE. What happened to Lidia and Jack MALONE, who were their children? Annie Louise Peters BEVANS BENNETT was first married in ILL, her children by the first marriage were; Edna E. BEVANS born 1866, Ezra BEVANS born 1867 and William A. BEVANS born 1869. William A. BEVANS was informant for his mothers death certificate in 1926 and stated he lived in Honcut. Moses Samuel BENNETT was a half brother to George Washington BENNETT, John Edward BENNETT and Thomas Perry BENNETT all of Yuba County. Also related to the Hollingshead family of Wheatland. I am hoping someone in Sutter Cty can do a look up for me. I have a relative, Carl Becker, and I need his obit. He died 12/24/1956, according to the info I have. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
I am also looking for his relatives in Butte County area; I have quite a bit of information about his ancestors, including a Civil War vet (William Becker) who married a southern woman (her uncle was on the opposite side of battle at Peachtree Creek).
