Most genealogies concerning Henry Delano Fitch list him as born in Nantucket, MA but some have New Haven, CT. This source indicates New Haven, CT. Why is this source discounted and what other sources are indicated?

[2]Ibid., pgs. 3, 8, 9. Fitch family tradition maintains that H.D. Fitch sailed to the Pacific Coast in a Bryant and Sturgis ship in 1822, major Boston hide traders in California from 1829 to 1840. That tradition also maintains that Beriah Fitch later bought Henry a ship to sail to the Pacific for trading. All this may have preceded his association with Virmond.
