Seeking any information available on a James A. Freeman who died in Loyalton, Sierra County, in 1899. James A. Freeman was born in Tennessee and attempting to determine if he was from Franklin County, Tennessee. Land records showed real property purchased by Freeman in the 1870's and the 1880 census showed him living with his brother Ed Freeman. The James A. Freeman I am seeking was a Confederate veteran of the First Tennessee Regiment and would have moved to California after the Civil War.

Apparently died 13 Nov 1899 (age 63). Buried at Loyalton.

Just received the cemetery record and greatly appreciated the help. I had tried everything I could think of including a death certificate search with no luck. You have made my day. Mike

Is there a way to get the entire listing for the cemetery records you sent? I am looking for the burial place of John L. Berkey who died in about 1928. I was told that he was buried in a small cemetery near Loyalton. He died there.

The complete listing for the previously provided URL is at:
http://www.usgwarchives.net/ca/sierra/cemeteries.html

There are a couple of other Sierra County cemetery listings at:
http://www.cagenweb.com/archives/Cemetery/Sierra/SierraCemet...

See also:
http://www.usgwtombstones.org/california/sierra.html

Note that the above lists are not guaranteed to be complete -- fires, floods, etc.

All of these are referenced by the GenWeb site for Sierra County:

More Sierra County listings will be added as I discover them.

Good luck in your research,
