Re: early miners at Goodyears Bar
I'd like to add my inquiry about an early miner at Goodyear's Bar: Alfred Marmon.
Marmon was born in Logan County, Ohio in 1824 to an Orthodox Quaker family; moved to Cass County, Michigan in 1829; was disowned by the Birch Lake Monthly Meeting in 1849 for deviating from plain speech & dress and for nonattendance; left for California in 1852 and traveled overland, passing through Kanesville, Iowa in May 1852.
Listed on the federal census
1860: Goodyears Bar, miner
1870: Lincoln, miner
1880: Goodyears Bar, deputy county assessor
Moved to Sacramento in mid-1880s, worked as a janitor in a church. Died and buried in Sacramento in 1901.
Would like to learn more about his years in Sierra County.
