I'm trying to find death and burial information on Lulu Octavia Sheckels-Kueny. She was born 17 Aug 1866 in CA (County unknown) and married Albert E Kueny Sr in 1886 in Tehama County, CA. She had at least two children: Albert Earl Kueny Jr b 8 Feb 1888 in San Jose and Harry Kueny b abt 1892 in CA. Her husband, Albert E Kueny died in Shasta County. I can't seem to locate his burial place-I think it may be the Cottonwood Cem-and I don't know when she died or where she is buried.

Herman A. Hartsock was b.1850 in Whitley Co. IN. He married twice in Kosciusko Co. IN . His first wife, Martha Jones, died 1879 while two children were infants. Luzern Harrison Hartsock, b. 1873 (called Lewis in family records) mar CA 1909 to Artie Mae Heryford. They died in Shasta CA. What happened to his brother Addison Hartsock, b.c.1876 ? (Adam in family records).

Herman A. Hartsock and children by second wife Nancy A. Doke settled in Stanford Santa Clara CA. Three known children including Anna Bewick who died in 1970.

Herman Hartsock was listed as a school teacher in 1880.

I am searching for information on relatives in Shasta County. There are several families involved. Most of them left Michigan for California in the late 1870s.
Charles Ezra Fisher, b 1841 Eaton County, MI married Caroline Gons in MI. Caroline's father, George and at least one sister, Harriet went to Shasta county between 1870 and 1880. The children of Charles and Caroline Gons Fisher are Franklin Fisher b 1872 and Lorena/Laurena Bell(e) Fisher b 1875 or 1876. From what I have gathered Franklin may have married a Bell Slater. Lorena married Fritz Klukkert in the late 1890s.
Charles Fisher and Caroline Gons divorced and Charles married his first cousin, Lillie Marietta Williams. Lillie is the daughter of John Shepard Williams and Sarah Davidson. Sarah Davidson is the daughter of Kennith/Kenneth Davidson/Davison. The Davidson/Davisons were originally from New York, then the Ann Arbor area of Michigan.
Another Davidson child was George Washington Davidson and he married Emma Mira Fisher (Charles' sister) in Shasta County in 1880. They had Cecil, William and Edward.
Some of the other children of John S. and Sarah Davidson Williams are Kennith Shepard Williams, Theodore Harvey Williams.
I am interested in data on any of these individuals or their relatives. I would very much like to connect with any of their descendants. Charles and Emma Fisher were my gg-uncle and aunt. John Shepard Williams was a ggg-uncle.
I can give more specific dates on most of these individuals if anyone is interested.

Hi List:
I am still searching for the exact DOD, & Obit, for my great grand father, John H Morton. The last "sighting" I have for him is in the 1900 Census, for North Keswick, Shasta, Co. He is buried in Newtown Cemetery, which , apparently , is uncared for, and records are unavailable (Is this correct?) . His Head Stone simply says" John H Morton, Civil War Vet".

Does anyone have access to the 1910, or 1920 Census records for Shasta Co, and do a look up for me, for John H Morton ? Ditto, for possible Voter Registration Lists, Land Records, or other Docs whhich may have him listed.

Does anyone else have any suggestions, as to how I can obtain his exact DOD, so I can locate his Death Registration, and Obit ?

His son, and daughter are buried in Redwood Cemetery.

All thoughts, comments, and suggestions, will be deeply appreciated.

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Shasta County, California as his home of record.

Soldier: OSCAR WOODROW MILLER
Born:1918
Date of loss: August 10, 1950 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 212 families in Califirnia that have not been located. There is one family from Shasta County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Lois was the mother of Eleanor L. MALONE who died in Forest Grove, Oregon on July 24, 2001. Ellie was married in the mid 1960's to (and shortly after divorced from) my husband's brother, Richard ARCHER, who died in 2002. They had a child in 1965. We lost touch with Ellie, Lois and the baby after the divorce. I just found out that Ellie and Lois have died and am interested in getting in touch with Ellie's son, Lois's grandson.

I already have Ellie's obit but I'm sure that Lois's obituary will provide more timely information.

Can anyone give me a brief account of the history of Anderson, CA. I'm coming up empty on a google search. My great-uncle died there in 1985. He was an Anderson. I'm wondering if there's some connection or if it's just a coincidence. Who is "Elias Anderson, rancher"???

Marvin Gordon Van Nort died May 13, 1955 in Anderson California. He is buried in the Anderson Cemetery. I was wondering if there was an obit for him. His mother died after the year 1912 from a heat stroke and his dad died in 1921 (both in the state of Texas). I would like to know if he ever married and how he wound up in California.

In 1901, Anna Lorene Simmerman was born in Missouri. She married James Herbert Hale. He passed away and she moved to Mad River, CA, in the 1950s. She later married a man whose last name was Signett. She went by the name of Lorene. She may have lived in Shasta County or Yuba County. She passed away in 1987 in one of these counties. She had a son who lived in Shasta County. His name was Robert Clifton Hale. He was born 1924 in Missouri. His residence was in Cottonwood, Shasta County, CA. He died in 1973 as the result of an auto accident. No services are planned.

Burial will be at Lawncrest Cemetery in Redding.

Born Aug. 28, 1917, in Niles, Ohio, she moved to Shasta County in 1970 from Fremont.

She was a homemaker.

She was also a member of the Anderson Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 9560. She is survived by stepson Ronald of Wasco; brothers Howard Kahler of Burnson, Melvin of Texas and Raymond of Milpitas; sisters Betty Engelhaupt of Burns Lake, B. C., and Virginia Waller of Columbia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Anderson.

I am looking for more information on my ancestor, John Covey who came to Shasta county approx 1875 +/-. He came with his second wife, Jane, their children, her children from her first marriage (Caler), and his brother Benjamin, who is listed in the 1880 census as a miner.

John was born in VA, and later lived in Mercer Co, MO for many years. He was born in 1813 and died in Whitmore in October of 1883. Some of his children raised in Shasta Co were Daniel, David, Joseph, & Benjamin

I would appreciate any info on John, his brother, Benjamin, or his Shasta Co descendants. I would also appreciate any assistance in obtaining info on where he is buried, land records, bios, etc.

SIMEON F. SOUTHERN PASSES AWAY

December 14, 1892 - The Shasta Democrat of Shasta County, in its recent issue, carried the notice of the death of Simeon Fisher Southern of Sims Station. Mr. Southern, a true pioneer of Shasta County was born in Elizabethtown, kentucky 72 years ago. He came to California in spring of 1849, settling in the old mining town of Shasta City, taking charge of the Eagle Hotel for 3 years, hence to French Gulch to operate the old Empire Hotel.
In 1859, he and his wife moved to a place on the upper Sacramento River, now known as Sims, and hewed out a home there long before even a wagon road was built up the canyon. They remained there ever since, raising a family of 7 children, William, Ida, May, Elzy, Fannie, Belle and Lemmie - and with their mother survive him.
He saw the building of the Sacramento to Portland Wagon Road; and later the construction of the C.&O., now Southern Pacific Railroad.
His home and resort at Sims became very popular with early pioneer days travelers; and thence widely known as a summer resort for tourists and health seekers. His first rough hewn cabin, typical of the pioneer, has become a beautiful home, and he also erected a fine hotel, liberally patronized over the years,
About 14 months ago he contracted la grippe, and being a severe case, he never recovered, moving to Redding about a month ago, to be near medical assistance. But, Uncle Sim, as he was favorably known, died yesterday morning at his place on Pine Street. The funeral of this highly esteemed pioneer, attended by all his family, took place from the Redding Presbyterian Church at 2:00 o'clock.

A memorial service for lontime Grass Valley resident Betty Hamburg will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Grass Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church. Burial will be at the Greenwood Memorial Garden.

Mrs. Hamburgh died Tuesday in Redding. She was 75.

She graduated from Lodi Academy and attended Pacific Union College at Angwin. She was a member of the Redding Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She is survied by her sons Paul Hamburgh af Lafayette and Gary Hamburgh of Walla Walla, Wash., daughter Gail Mitchell of Redding, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 40 years Jess Hamburgh.

My great-great grandparents, John S. and Melissa McDonald and their daughter, Catherine, her husband Edwin Moore McDonald and their chidren Sarah, John Small and Catherine W. moved to the French Gulch area sometime between 1858 and 1860 from Brooklyn, New York. Edwin was a baker by trade. Edwin and Catherine's daughter Catherine married Walter Adams Whitney and had Annie, Ella and Albert W. Their second daughter married John Hiram Hunter. Since John S and Melissa were aged when they arrived there and were on the 1860 census, but not on the 1870 I presume they died in French Gulch. The family appears to have remained in the area until after 1900. I'm interested in contacting anyone who may be related to these individuals and to me. I descended from their second daughter, Melissa Wessels McDonald Drain who settled in Kansas and Texas. Any small amount of information will be appreciated
