I am seeking the obituary on George M Lengle. According to the SSDI he was born 4 Oct 1905 in Pennsylvania and died Sept 2, 1990 in Santa Clara, California. I believe he is the same person listed on the Ravine WWII Memorial in Pine Grove Pennsylvania. I am attempting to gather the military info on all 72 names on that memorial. Any help is greatly appreciated.

the house on fox ave is wwhere alot of my family lived over the years.elmo and annie had five kids all together.hazel was the oldest than a boy named james, i think thats his name. my grandpas handwriting is hard to read sometimes. a girl who died very young and two other children i dont know the names of.i know elmo and annie were married on oct 10 1898. the marriage certificate number is 9800587, but i dont have a copy of it.annie married elmer gustafson and had a daughter named elaine. i think, handwriting again. she married john something.hazel must of married a man named liebenberg and i have her down as having no children.i have hazel as being born in 1898 and dying in 1984 in santa clara county.earlier you had annie named Dias.i have found annie and her brother edward spelling it dias but the other siblings spell it Deas like i do now

With that little bit of help, I think you can narrow the kidnapping to somewhere around 1905-1910. You said there were other children? Found Anna as housekeeper for Elmer Gustafson in 1910. Where is Hazel?
Found Elmo 3 times in Ca voter reg 1900-1906 (San Jose), it just doesn't say exactly what years it covers
2 listings for 1250 Lick Ave (address on 1900)
1 listing for 224 Fox Ave (Anna Clares and Gustofson's 1910)

that is the right people.anne also remarried after elmo left, to a man named elmer gustafson,and they had a child named elaine, i think.
it is a long a and sometime strange family history.the kidnapping is just one of many stories.

I'm not related, but I've been following your Dias/Deas postings. Very tangled trail to say the least.
The only thing I've been able to find is the 1900 census,

I think this is Hazel on CADI
Hazel Dell Liebenberg b. 4 Aug 1898 d.18 Apr 1984 Santa Clara Co - mothers maiden name- Dias, father-Clair.

I can't find anything else. I've done first name only searches for Santa Clara Co, old newspapers at ancestry for Clair and kidnapping. The only newspaper in that area that has postings that far back is Oakland. But you would have thought it would be big news.
You can always try the Santa Clara historical soc. they may be able to help give you some direction.

im looking for info about this story or newparer article.Elmo clair was married to anne Deas.they were living in san jose when elmo desrted the family. anne left the kids with a neighbor for the day. he kidnapped them but the oldest daughter escaped. i think her name was hazel. they neve found the other kids and the neighbor committed suicide.my family hs always wanted to know more about this story. it would have happened between 1900 to 1930s. not sure about a date

he married cecelia murphy in san jose in 1878, i think. they were married in at st josephs church in san jose.they had 6 kids.edward, peter , anne, cecelia, christine, a james.he died in 1892 in san jose.

I think your request for an obituary for 1892 is almost a lost cause because back then only important people had the money to pay for obituaries . You would have to know the historical newspaper that might have contained his death notice before anybody could find it for you . As for the death certificate , you will have to go to the county seat and see if they have indexed the historical d/c and then you will need to apply to get it . Any information that old is unlikely to be scanned in so available on the internet

Died 25 Oct 2000 Nevada City, Storey County, Nevada. Mother’s maiden name Dean. Parents both born England per 1920 census. Father emigrated 1900, mother 1913. Living in Palo Alto in 1920. Father’s occupation in 1920 secretary at a seminary. Father born abt 1877, mother about 1896.

1930 Census living in Fremont (Los Altos), Santa Clara County. Ethel is listed as married, although John is not enumerated with the household. Ethel’s occupation is servant in a private home. Also in household sister Mary born about 1922 and a boarder.

You might check the 1901 and earlier England censuses for additional info on parents and see if there is an obituary available from a Nevada newspaper for info on survivors, if any. Ships passenger lists might also provide additional information on parents.

John and Dorothy were my great uncle and aunt He was born in 1875 Ethel on 24th Nov 1895 in England. They married here in England in Sept. 1913 and emigrated on the Campania to the U.S. in the same month. They settled I believe in Santa Clara where he worked in some capacity at a seminary possibly janitor or secretary.Ethel died on 28th May 1973 in Santa Clara. Mary Louise Moore was born in Santa Clara on 8th May 1922 of parents Moore\Dean I believe she may have been their daughter,she died on 29 Dec 1988 in L.A.I would be interested in any information on these people .Rosemary

This is a real stab in the dark so to speak, but I wonder if anyone searching the Gardners, know of an John Garnder who married Cathryn(Cathrine Ryan) had 7 children, but only two lived Daniel and Edward. They were born I believe either in MA or ME. Edward became a Boston Police officer, married Ester Silverstein(born in Russia) had a daughter in 1941-42, divorced Ester shortly thereafter, and married Gladys Barton. Ed died in 1960 in Stoughton MA. I am trying to learn about Daniel, but have come up empty, thus far, so I was thinking maybe he left MA, and went west? Who knows? Somehone out there has the answer, but who?

Lighting Expert Called by Death.
Palo Alto Man Introduced Incandescent Illumination in California.

Jolen J. Lewin, one of California's fore-most electricians, who died last Sunday afternoon at his homo near San Jose, will be buried a t Los Gatos to-day. Lewin had a host of friends among all classes of people throughout the central part of the State, and his family is receiving many messages of condolence.

For 10 years the deceadent was electrician of Leland Stanford university, and at the time of his death was city electrician of Palo Alto. To him is credited the introdution of incandescent lighting in California. He was recognised as a man advanced in his profession, and at the time of the wedding of Miss Theresa Fair and Hermann Oelrichs he was called upon to install all the elaborate lighting for that event.

The deceadent was born on the Isle of Man 49 years ago. He leaves a wife and four children — Mrs R. J. Fletcher, of San Rafael, Miss Myrtle Lewin, Miss Mona Lewin, and Miss May Lewin.

does anybody know of this family. they are spread out from san jose to monterey to san francisco.I have heard that a dias married a buelna women possibly the daughter of antonio buelna.The buelnas can be traced back but where is the dias family. and the name was changed from dias to deas .

If i remember right because i have heard alot of family stories , there are alot of men named charles in that family.One charlie white wa in the san francisco fire department with my grandpa and the were related. he is also my dads godfather. that charles white is also the father of dan white who im sure you know killed the mayor of san francisco in the 1970s.

hey ther, i just came across this. my name is clay deas and i from the san francisco bay area.The Deas family married into the white family of san francisco.The Deas family also has members in san jose but they have the original spelling of our name which is Dias.The other have of our family is also from ireland. i have a white family tree somewhere from my grandfather.
