The website requires costly registration to see the full article, so I'm hoping there's a subscriber willing to copy the text and send it to me through the contact form on Ancestry. It's for C. William Altman, and appears in the 3/20 edition.

Thanks

CARL WILHELM MELANDER - DOB 11/10/1877 Sweden - DOD 1907(?)

I have an on-line friend in Sweden who is looking for information regarding her grandmother's brother - Carl (Karl) Wilhelm Melander, who she says died in Santa Barbara County in 1907 -- too far back for the on-line California death index. She wants to know if he left any family. Is anyone able to do a death lookup for me? I believe from the way "Melander" is pronounced in Swedish that Carl's last name might possibly be spelled "Mailander". Thank you for any information you can provide.

I am searching for a Judith Ann Podsednik. I am not sure if she is part of the same Podsednik ancestry you are connected with but thought I would see if perhaps anyone knows her. Podsednik is her maiden name and I am guessing she was born perhaps late 1940's or early 1950's. I have no other information on her. I am not sure if she was born in San Diego, I only know she lived there or around there in the mid 1960's. Any information that could help in locating her would be great! Thank you!

John William Gunnels Married Eliza J. Haddox, and they had 3 children, in Oxnard, Ventura, CA. Mildred was born in 1902, 0r 1904(most likely)then Jesse or Jessie, malein 1905; the 3rd child was an unknown female. Death of Eliza is unknown, but she preceded John William, who died in April or May of 1918, supposedly in the line of duty in Ventura County. John William is the son of Mary Ann Gilmore, and Jessie Bransford Gunnels, married in MO about 1856, then remarried Mary Ann Holyfield, also in MO, in November of 1865. Death of M.A.Gilmore is unknown, but Jessie was a rounder, and left more than 1 wife.
The family line goes back to William Posey Gunnels, and his son Nathan or Nathaniel Gunnels, in TN, GA, and the Carolinas.
I have a photo I found (and bought) at a flea market while I was near Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio last week. It is of a young man with dark hair & light eyes. The back says that the photo was made by:

"A.H. Nichols, Artist: Ink Work a Specialty, Findlay, Ohio".

I hope someone can identify this young man. Thank you.

Sincerely, Gail Kelley
(California)

From the
News-Press
Santa Barbara, California
(Santa Barbara County)
Tuesday, February 15, 2005

BALDRIDGE, Charles B., 90; of Goleta; died Feb. 11; arrangements by Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels.

(same newspaper, Friday, February 18, 2005)

BALDRIDGE, Charles B. "Red"

(with photo)

Born March 1, 1914, Lakewood, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home in Goleta on February 11, 2005. Beloved husband of Charlotte for 60 years; devoted father to sons Richard, Mark and James and daughter Marcia Pepper; loving grandfather to ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bud graduated from Lakewood High School in 1932, excelling academically in math, literature, and music. Unfortunately, the Great Depression prevented him from futher academic pursuits. He served as a technical instructor for the U. S. Navy in World War II.

In 1936 he joined Winton Engine, a subsidiary of General Motors in Cleveland. He worked for GM for thirty-seven years and retired in 1973 from Delco Electronics Division in Goleta as a contracts administrator. Upon retirement, Bud enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing the piano, tending his garden, and engaging in numerous construction projects around his home in the Goleta foothills.

Like his literary hero, Mark Twain, Bud was a master storyteller. He will be remembered for his family stories about growing up along the shores of Lake Erie in the early Twentieth Century and for his humerous anecadotes from his long, distinguished career at General Motors.

The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memory of Charles Bayard Baldridge to either the Parkinson's Foundation, P.O. Box 6254, Santa Barbara, 93160 or Hospice of Santa Barbara, 520 West Juniper Street, Santa Barbara, 93105.
