Johan Frederick "John" WOLF, b. 1858 in Schleswig-Holstein, Denmark (later Germany), em. early 1880s and established a successful liquor wholesale business in SF, operating as "John Wolf & Co." in 1888-1889 and then as "Wolf, Wreden & Co.) 1891-1898 in partnership with William WREDEN, whose father Claus WREDEN was the proprietor of the Washington Brewery.
John WOLF "disappeared" in 1898 and the business was reorganized as "Wreden-Kohlmoos Co." (This reorganization was announced in the Pacific Wine & Spirit Review of 31 Mar 1899). John's brother, Gustav "Gus" WOLF (1868-1853), who had joined his brother in 1895, later set up his own wholesale business as "Gus Wolf & Co." My wife is descended from Gus.
I desperately need the help of a lookup volunteer who has access to the archives of the SF Chronicle and/or Examiner for 1898 and can uncover the details behind the "disappearance" of John WOLF.
