I recently found a photograph of an old envelope that was sent to Ed. MAUSSENET of San Francisco from Paris in 1870. You can see the envelope on http://philgen.org (search on MAUSSENET, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I am unable to find an Ed. MAUSSENET in a census or similar source and wondered if someone more familiar with San Francisco can find him. I believe that Paris may be his or his parents' birthplace and this envelope will be helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy (viewable at the philgen website) and have started the philgen website.
