Unfortunately, all the birth and many other records were
destroyed by the Great Fire and Earthquake of 1906.
You will find nothing prior to May 1906 and may be
lucky to find any til later that year as much of the
City burned to the ground.

You will have to rely on alternate records. City Directories.
Newspaper articles or listings. Check for the Alta and the
Call Bulletin. They have been microfilmed.

The County was formed in 1850. If you know the religion
of the Ancestor, you may be lucky enough to find a Church
record that may have survived for a baptism. However, if
you know the Baptism was at Old St. Mary's Cathedral,
you may also be dissappointed as that church has suffered
a couple or more fires.

The Public Health Department has the birth records that
exist. 101 Grove Street, San Francisco, CA

At this date, the birth records cost $15.00 and the death
certificates $13.00 each. However, there was a law enacted
on 7/1/2003 that affects the manner in which you request
the certificates and may affect your ability to obtain them.

Good luck.
