The 1940 Census stills shows Mission Township but also indicates that it is in the unincorporated area called Loma Linda. My dad and grandparents lived on Caroline Street in this township in 1940. The address for Caroline Street is now in San Bernardino with a zip code of 94208.

She was married to Thomas H. Yarnold. I know they got divorced. I don't know what happened to him.

I am a Great Granddaughter of Grace and George McCann. I don't know if I have an obit for George. There was no funeral service. Grace died in Oct 1997 in Reedsport, OR. I can get the exact date later for you, but I think it was around the 27th. Her burial was on October 31 and she is interned in Scottsburg, OR. Let me know what else you need about them.

I am looking for information on Florence Alma McCann. I thought my Grandmother always told me she married a Dale Carpenter. But now I am finding records for Frank C Carpenter. Do you know much about them?

My grandfather was at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, CA from 1929 to who knows when. My grandmother and her children never heard from him again. The hospital said that maybe he ran away while working in the orange orchard. My grandmother was very poor during the depression and could not pursue his disappearance. I have contacted the hospital various times and have received different responses, but the last person I spoke to said that I would have to have a court order or would have to have my doctor request the file.
I am very upset about this policy and feel that they are hiding information. I just want to know what he had and what happened to him. I know for sure that they sterilized him.

A township is not necessarily the name of a populated place. Township names are often the name of the voting precinct.

It would help if you identified the names of the persons that lived in that township so they could be traced to the 1940 census. If they had moved, ceased to exist, then the names of other residents could be traced into 1940. I did this just last week in another area and found the current name for the area.

I live in the Riverside / San Bernardino area, but am researching family links in Virginia, Missouri and Kentucky. I have already learned to use the Family History Library resources, but at $8 per request, it is quickly getting expensive to do general searches for marriage, birth, death, tax, will and deed searches.

I have visited the genealogy section of the LA Central library and found several general texts with record indexes that were helpful in giving me a jumping off point for marriage records. I am also contemplating a trip to Salt Lake at some point if necessary to get access to multiple films and texts at a time. ($8 x 8 searches = almost enough gas to get me there.)

Does anyone locally know of any inland libraries that have good genealogy sections with a good selection of records for other states or should I focus on trips to LA and Salt Lake.

There may be one in either or both counties. The San Bernadino Co Public Library does not do email requests. Any advice on how to obtain the obit and possibly any related stories to the accident? I will be happy to pay for costs.

Looking for obit and/or any info on this couple. (I do have a short obit for "Mary L. KNOP" from the Progress Bulletin, Pomona, Los Angeles Co., California, 27 Sep 1970. Here are the details:

George Reinhardt KNOP was b. 28 sep 1901 in Cass Co., Iowa, and d. 6 Jan 1976 in Ontario, San Bernardino Co., Calif.

Mary Lucinda (TRISLER) KNOP was b. 1900 in Glenwood, Mills Co., Iowa and d. 25 Sep 1970, also in Ontario. her obit says she was to be buried in Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery in Riverside.

They were married in Iowa and Mary's obit says they had been residents of Ontario for 13 years, so maybe they came to Calif. in 1957.

They had three daughters, two of which were in California when Mary died. Winona (KNOP) was married to Eugene WHITE and Joan (KNOP) was married to Gerald GERARD OR GIRARD, both couples were living in Pomona.

Mary also had a sister, Eva (TRISLER) who was married to Floyd PICKENS and they were living in Saugus.
