I just caught this message board and I see that it's really old. Linda Ruble is my Aunt. Her brother Herman is my father. I've been trying to figure out where we all came from, but this family is so big it seems impossible. I have gotten as far back as Noah Browning in the late 1800's. Can you shed any light for me?

The 1930 US census shows a Pauline Bunke, age 64, a widow, living at 232 S. Olive in Orange CA. She immigrated to US in 1887. She is living with her daughter, Clara Bunke, single, age 35 (born about 1895). If you look closely at the postcard, I believe the name on the card is Pauline Bunke, not Paulim Louiska. The census info shows Pauline was born in Germany, her daughter was born in California. The census sheet is from 1930 census, state of CA, County: Orange; Orange Township, Enumeration Dist. 30-54, Supervisor Dist. 20, Sheet 3A.

The 1920 census shows her husband John Bunke, a son Leo Bunke, age 26 (born about 1894) and Clara, age 25. They are living on Glassell St, which is just a couple blocks east of Olive Street. Son Leo is shown as a fruit farmer--probably meaning orange or lemon groves, which in those days surrounded the town of Orange. Husband John is shown as immigrating to US in 1881. So they probably met and married in California.

Maybe old 1890's CA marriage records, if available to anyone, would show the marriage, and you can find Pauline's maiden name. That might shed some light on the name of the sender of the card.

There is a copy of a 1922 passport application on Ancestry.com, which shows the same Pauline Bunke was born in Olm, Germany. There is no Olm in Germany (it's in Luxembourg), but there is an Ulm, which just happens to be about 30 miles southeast of Weisensteig. Another piece of evidence that suggests the addressee on the postcard is most likely Pauline Bunke.

1900 US census for Orange County shows a son Fred, born in CA in 1889 and daughter Lena, born in CA in 1890.

In CA death records for one of these children, mother's maiden name is listed as "Shaffelt". In Ancestry immigration records, there is a Pauline Schaefflett who came to US arriving on 26 Oct 1887, noted as being from germany, who came to US aboard the "Westernland" from Antwerp. Her age was listed as 22 on passenger list, and apparently came with no other family members. This could be Pauline Bunke.

I recently found a photograph of an old postcard that was sent to Orange, California from Wiesensteig, Germany in 1927. You can see the postcard on http://philgen.org (search on Weisensteig, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I am unable to read the name of the person who received the card and wondered if someone more familiar with Orange can decipher the name using the street address and a city directory. I believe that Wiesensteig, Germany may be the birthplace of the recipient and this postcard will be helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the postcard is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy (available at the philgen website) and have started the philgen website.

I didn't find a death date in the CA death index through 2000.
Santa Ana is in Orange county.
Maybe if you write the lodge in Orange County they can give you details....

I am trying to find out about Annie and Malcom McKay, they lived at 1810 Meriday Lane, Santa Ana, California in the 1980's and were members of a free mason lodge in the area. Annie was with the Eastern Star and they were very active in the lodge. They were both Canadians and prior to moving to California had lived in British Columbia. They are both deceased now but we don't know when and we don't know where they are buried??

Did not find an obit, but found a Jesse O. Goodman who lived at 2350 Benton Way, Santa Ana, CA. in 1928 (Voter Registration). Listed as a Merchant, also at the same address was an Olive M. Goodman listed as a Bookkeeper.

If this is the Jesse that you are searching for, his birth date was May 9, 1885. His middle name being Overton.

Olive's maiden name being Merritt, the daughter of a James and Sara Merritt. Jesse, according to the 1910 census, was born in Texas.

If any of this assists you and you would like more information, please let me know and I will look for more.

I have him dying in 9-23-1931 in orange co but I have no death for his wife I do have his daughter Olive goodman Kidder dying 7-2-2000 in Trinidad Ca. They had four children Letitia; Timothy, Richard and Ruth each of which remained in the midwest.

Walter later remarried to Janet Malley or Barr in Los Angeles County on Nov 23, 1966.

Walter pass on May 20, 1987 in Orange County. At one time he lived in Huntington Beach.

I also could not find a record of their marriage online in the California Marriage Index, prior to 1960. Although, the California Divorce Index, 1966 - 1984 on Ancestry.com does list their names, Norman D. Lawrence and Betty A. Tessier as having been married in year 1955 and divorced in San Mateo, CA., Nov 1967.

Betty's maiden name was Tessier. She married Norman Lawrence in 1955 CA., divorced in 1967. Lost contact with her after she married. Was told she had a child and did not remarry.

I also neglected to mention the Santa Ana Public Library in Santa Ana conducted a search for me and they too did Not find an Obit of her. They suggested I do a search in the smaller local community newspapers at the library in Huntington Beach... which I found does Not do individual look-ups!

Looking for a kind soul to look up an Obit in the Huntington Beach Local Community Newspapers at the Huntington Beach Public Library of;
Betty Lawrence, born Aug 29, 1929, NY., died June 18, 2002, Huntington Beach, Orange Co., CA.
The Huntington Beach Public Library website states they do Not do individual lookups due to their shortage of staff & volunteers.
The OCCGS (Orange County California Genealogical Society) does Not have the microfilm for Huntington Beach local newspapers.
The RAOGK (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) website for Orange County does Not have any volunteers that do lookups for Obituaries.
I would be grateful for any help in finding an Obit of her that may give names of other family members. Thank you.

You might also try the "Orange County Register" (formerly the "Santa Ana Register"), which publishes obits from all around Orange County. It is a larger paper with much bigger circulation that the Huntington Beach local paper.

You can Google Orange County, CA, and look for the County government website, then vital records. The county seat is Santa Ana. I'm sure if you have the date of marriage and spouses names you can get an informational copy of a marriage record at a reasonable cost.
