Hi Jay,
In 1930 the family was living in Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts.
Abednego Hobbws, b. New Foundland, Canada, 44, immigrated 1905, pending papers, cabinet maker piano shop.
Lillian, wife, b. England, 39, imm 1911, naturalized, domestic private family.
James G. Hobbs, stepson, b. MA, 17, single, salesman grocery store.
John F. Hobbs, Stepson, b. MA, 16, single, salesman grocery store.
Rosenna Hobbs, dau, b. MA, 11.
Walter E. Hobbs, son, b. MA, 8.

The Corbett-Armstrong Family Tree, trees.ancestry.com/tree/1144360/person/-522508599 contains info about Abednego and Lily. Most larger libraries have access to Ancestry.

Abednego died 1940 in Elliston, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Lily died 1980 but doesn't say where.

I also found the James George Veryard in the Sheehan/Richardson-Richardson/Morrell-Morrell/Edgecomb family tree, trees.ancestry.com/tree/1322414/person/6103076628.

James kept the Veryard surname and did marry Hester P. Walker. James died 31 1987 in Leominster, Worcester, MA.
Hester was born 29 June 1914 in North Fryeburg, Oxford, Maine.
She died 3 Dec 1989 in Fitchburg, Worcester, Mass.

John G. Veryard Hobbs is included in the Sheehan, etc family tree.

John Francis Hobbs
Died: 1 July 1982, Orange Co., CA
Born: 22 Feb 1914, Mass.
Mother: Thomas

I don't know how you'd get copies of the Massachusetts obituaries. You can place a request on that respective County, State Message Board.

It's VERY difficult to find an obituary in Orange Co. because of the number of towns, cities and newspapers. John MIGHT have been living in Garden Grove before he died. You can contact the Garden Grove Regional Library, susan.waterman@occr.ocgov.com .

If they can't find the copy, contact the Heritage Park Regional Library, egov.ocgov.com/ocgov/OC%20Public%20Libraries
Then click on a link for any one of the top five managers
They'll farm out the request to the correct library. Be sure to tell them that John MIGHT have been living in Garden Grove before he died.
Successful Searching!
