Searching for connections to PASCOE in Nevada from the mid 1860s onwards.

I have a photo by "J. Swart, Photo, Nevada City" noted on the back as:
"Mother's sister, Mrs Pascoe, Nevada City, California, taken about 1864. She had two daughters Minnie and Nellie".

This annotation was made by Alice AMY (nee MOORE)and her mother was Jane Cann CUDLIPP who was born at Boyton, Devon/Cornwall, England 14Jan1846. She had at least one sister and the one mentioned in the photo may have been Mary E CUDLIPP born about 1849 Bere Ferris, Devon, England.

Any connections to these names would be most welcome, as would any advice on how to trace the PASCOE family in Nevada about 1864 onwards.

I am searching for info on descendants of Francis Conlin and Catherine Conlin Nee Flaherty - both born in Ireland.
they married in 1868 in Grass Valley and lived there until their deaths in 1909 (Catherine) and 1911 (Francis). They had five daughters - one of whom Julia Flornece married Harry Davey in early 1900's and moved to Nevada County where they had at least three children Russell, Frances and Charles Henry.

I have an obit for Gertrude I. Heaney who died Sept. 6, 1970 at Siera Nevada Hospital. All the obit states is that Hooper and Weaver chapel held the services. However, it doesn't state which cemetery she is buried in. Would anyone have cemetery records for that year and/or know how I can find the cemetery. I checked the cemeteries in the tombstone transcription project but there are only a few and have had no luck.

Is there or was there a cafe or restaurant by the name of Altos in Nevada City? The father of a friend of mine, is believed to have been employed by the cafe. The friend is trying to find more information about his father, George Watson Scott, who was married to a Marie, died Dec. 31, 1973 in Nevada City. According to the 1988 Polks city directory, Marie, was living in Nevada City, however, according to the Calif. Death Index, she did not die there or at least is not listed in Nevada County.
Marie and George Scott had son, Michael Scott, born sometime between 1943-1946 in Los Angeles. Michael is half-brother to my friend who would like to locate him. Any help and information would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for any information on Albert E. HAMPTON.
His civilian draft registration card gives a date of 2 Jan 1893, and states that he was a native of Cornwall, England.

He married Ethel KITTO. They had 2 children: Ernest and Beverly HAMPTON.

I was under the impression that their father was named Alfred and born in Pennsylvania since this would tie the MORT line into the HAMPTON line, but this new piece of information fits in more with what current relatives believe.

Does anyone have any information out there? I would wholeheartedly appreciate it.

William BOTTCHER was born in Germany in May 1866. He immigrated in 1882 and is shown on the 1900 Census as residing in Meadow Lake, Navada Co., CA.

He was the township constable for maybe 20 years [Census records 1920, 1930]. He probably never married.

William died 23 June 1946 in Navada Co., CA.

Would like his obituary and/or any info on constables.

I'm looking for the dates that Pietro "Peter" Marchi and his wife, Maria "Mary" Marchi died. They moved to Grass Valley around 1915-1919. They are on the 1930 census but they are not listed in the California death index online which starts at 1940. I assume they died between 1930 and 1940. I have found multiple people named Peter and Mary but not the correct ones. Peter was born in 1872 and Maria was born in 1865. I don't know where they died but they were still in Grass Valley in 1930. There are no living descendants as far as I know.

I am looking for information about Pioneer Park in Nevada City, CA. My grandparents, Charles J. and Minnie GIANI, lived at 347 Nimrod Street by the park from about the 1930s/40s until about 1980. My grandfather took care of the park and did the stonework at the picnic grounds. When he got sick, my grandmother took over. I would like to get some pictures (from this time period) of the park and of his stonework if anyone has some to share. If the stonework is still there, current pictures would also be appreciated. Zetta Mosher was born May 1888 in Nevada City, Nevada Co., CA. She married Robert Jackson Doughty 21 Oct 1907 in Nevada City.

They were the parents of twin daughters, Vera & Verda born 01 Jul 1909 in Nevada City. Verda died abt. 1911 in Nevada City. The couple divorced, date unknown. I believe the divorce was filed in Nevada Co.

Robert was on the 1920 census living with his mother & stepfather. He married my grandmother in 1922.

Very little is known abt. my grandfather's 1st family. My Mom said she recalled meeting Vera once. She remembered very little about her.

Zetta was on the 1900 census in Nevada City, Nevada Co. Date of birth listed was May 1888. Her parents were Charles Mosher b. Jan 1825 in NY & mother Beatrice b. Sep 1862 in England.

I am seeking information re Zetta.
When & where was the divorce filed?
Did Zetta remarry, who, when & where?
Did she have more children?

It's been a good while since I have posted this, so I am resubmitting in the hopes that someone new may see this and be able to help.

My g-g-grandfather, David Thompson Frew, was born in Bridgeport (census lists San Juan Post Office), in April of 1863. His father was James Frew and mother was Elizabeth (nee' Thompson) Frew. He was their third child. I would like to know if there were any birth records kept there at that time. I am also looking for a death record for his older brother, Robert Frew, who died between 1860 (fall) and 1870. He is listed in the 1860 census (< 1 year), but never again in any census.
My dad has located David Frew's death certificate (date of birth is listed as 04/1863)and unmarked grave, and we would love to be able to put his correct birthdate on the headstone, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone tell us where we could look for this information? We all live on the East coast, so a physical search is not possible. Any tips would be appreciated.

Trying to find descendants from Earl Finley McGrew and Birdie Permelia Hart. They were only married one year. Ended in divorce or death?? One little girl was born to them. Her name was Coral Belle McGrew born 1900/01Holt County Nebraska. Coral Belle married Henry Sprague. They had 6 children: Virginia, Victor, Faye, Nevada, Warren and Eva. The only one of these children I have any info on is Eva. Eva June Sprague was born 17 January 1940 Nevada City, Nevada, California and died four days later 21 January 1940. I am thinking some of the family must still be in Nevada County, California. Also Birdie married 2nd to Ernest Grant Curtis in Nebraska. They moved to South Dakota then on to California where they both died.

Stanley’s parents were: Ray F. Powell (b. 1885 in Mich.- d. unknown) and Elsie/Alsia Kielihofe (b. Abt 1888 in Colorado- d. unknown) Ray and Elsie/Alsia also had a daughter by the name of Verda, b. Abt 1911 in Calif.

Stanley would be a 4th cousin, once removed to me; and a 4 X great grandson of Alexander NEGLEY of Pittsburgh. Stanley’s family had moved from Ohio and Indiana to California sometime before 1918.

Did Stanley ever marry and have children? IF so, what were their names?

Looking for descendants of Henry Woodfield and Freelove Wesden, who lived in Forest Springs, Nevada County, from the late 1850s until around 1880. Freelove died in 1874. Supposedly there is a cemetery plot in the French Corral Cemetery. Henry was born in England and was a tailor. He previously lived in Providence, Rhode Island. A brother, John Woodfield, also lived in the area and was a miner. Most of this family moved to San Francisco before 1890. The children of Henry Woodfield were: Georgianna Partridge (Vermont), William H. Woodfield (S.F.), Josephine Welcome (S.F.), Isabella Wheeler (Grass Valley), Ida Rouse (S.F.), Rose Westphal (S.F.), and Lincoln M. Woodfield (S.F.). Miss Reita DEEBLE was ring-bearer to the bride and groom. After the wedding breakfast the newly married couple left for San Francisco to enjoy their honeymoon. Both bride and groom are favorably known in this city and have many friends who wish them well.

Born February 14, 1932, she died at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Vivian was a beautiful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Van Zuuk and Vivian Clark; her sons and their wives Ronald and Cathy Maxson and David and Linda Maxson; her grandchildren: Melinda and Randy Zinger, Ronald Maxson, Heather and Robert Wichtman, Brian and Jennifer Maxson, Sarah Clark, Anna Van Zuuk and Benjamin Van Zuuk. She will be missed by her great grandchildren: Jonathon Maxson, Amanda Zinger, Meaghan Wichtman, and Rochelle Wichtman. She is also survived by siblings: Irving Ehlers, Marian Kopka, and Clarence Ehlers. She will be missed by her many other family members and friends. Vivian was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and an active member of their Labor of
Love group.

Memorial services will be held for Vivian at Faith Lutheran Church in Meadow Vista at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Faith Lutheran Labor of Love group.

A celebration of life for Randell Scott Valley of Grass Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.

Mr. Randell died Friday, May 19, in Sacramento. He was 46.

He was born March 4, 1960, in Tucson, Ariz., to Paul D. Valley and Sharon D. (Olney) Valley. He served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1986. He attended West Valley College. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed disc golf, TV sports, softball, and bowling.

He is survived by his son, Dean S. Valley of Grass Valley; daughters Paula D. Valley and Stephanie B. Downer both of Grass Valley; father, Paul D. Valley of Las Vegas, Nev.; mother, Sharon D. Downer of Grass Valley; brother, Daryl K. Valley of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepbrothers Michael L. Downer of Meridian, Idaho, and Mark L. Downer of Yuba City.

Looking for relatives of Benjamin Lenus ("Belenus"?) Ekstam and/or Elsie Nordquist who lived in Moline, IL, during late 1930s and 1940s.

One son, Dwight Dale Ekstam, lost his life in a W W II plane crash April 1944 on a South Pacific island. Members of his Marine Corps squadron recently learned a search team may have located remains of plane's crew members. They are trying to locate living relatives to provide DNA samples (at no cost) to perhaps make positive identification.

Records found indicated that Dwight had a younger brother, Dean V. It's possible he may live in the Nevada City area. If anyone has any information or knows this family, please contact me. I would be happy to provide further information. My father belonged to the same WW II squadron as Dwight D. Ekstam.

For some seven years or so I have been trying (vainly) to find data about one James Pascoe born England /Cumberland/Cleator Moor in 1880 - Of John and Ellen Pascoe nee Uren. James arrived via Ellis Island in 1905 showing his intention to go to Bisbees Arizona. He had a brother Ben who moved to Colorado and one of Bens;s children (now deceased ) said in a letter that she rembered james Marrying then moving to P.A. but she could be wrong !
The 1920 census shows a possible - living in Grass Valley - is there any kind soul out there that could help me get more info on this man somehow - no matter how small all help appreciated . This man is proving a mystery to me and I have spent long hours trying to find his trail . Robert Griffith ROBERTS (07 Feb 1832), along with brothers Evan (14 Feb 1834) and Thomas Nelson ROBERTS (08 Jun 1836) arrived in Grass Valley, Nevada Co. about 1854 from Franklin, Delaware Co, NY.

Robert G. ROBERTS married Helen M. (unknown) and had at least two sons, Charles M., b. about 1862, and Elmer E., b. about 1869. Robert was a blacksmith and died at his residence on Lincoln Street on 24 Jul 1912.

Robert's son Elmer E., married Nellie SCADDEN on 03 Jun 1893 in Nevada Co. This union produced three sons, Clifford ROBERTS, Leonard ROBERTS, and Robert G. ROBERTS (26 Mar 1906). The family relocated to the Oakland area. Am looking for any related families.

MURDER in GRASS VALLEY -- The Murderer Escaped Grass Valley, March 1, 9 p.m.
A cold blooded murder was committed today in Boston Ravine by a man named Michael CUMMINGS, who stabbed a person named Michael CONNOR in the back, the knife piercing the heart, and caused instant death. CUMMINGS made his escape and has not yet been arrested. The jury are now holding an inquest over the body of CONNOR.

GGGUncle Ebenezer went with brother George to California from Maine to mine. He died October 5, 1863 in Nevada County, according to Maine records of deaths reported from out of state. Any suggestions where I might find a death certificate and/or grave for Eben/Ebin? Thank you.

Hi all,

I have made some connections to the Coughlan's in this area. My g-g-grandfather was Michael Coughlan, his wife, Theresa Carroll - she died in 1877. Michael died in 1901. They had 10 children; Pat, Mary Emma, Elizia, James, Thomas & George (twins), Kate, Margaret, Edward (or Edmond) and William.

My g-grandmother was Mary Emma Coughlan, she married a Michael O'Brien and lived and died in Redlands, CA.

I am not sure if any other Coughlans came to America with Michael & Theresa (and Pat - who was born in Ireland) - but it is at least possible that Dennis was a brother - or other family member.

The reason for this lengthy note is that a researcher in the area just sent me 5 photos of Coughlan graves in Nevada City, CA:

Mary Gertrude Coughlan - no birth / date record
Charles Joseph Coughlan - no birth / date record
