Re: Knoxville, Napa County

Knoxville was a mining town of about 300 people (50 houses) in it's heyday. The few mines in the area were all mining quicksilver (mercury). The town was predominantly Irish young men who sacrificed their health for the high pay.

The mines have all been abandoned and in some cases buried/remediated. By the mid 1980's all houses/buildings had been leveled and only a few stone walls remain to mark the town.

Checked Napa County Marriage Records 1850-1974 and found nothing under Olsen, Vogel or Boetticher.

Hi,

I'm looking for my Great great grandmother who - according to her naturalization records was married in Napa, California the 20th March 1925. I do have a discrepancy, as the marriage date on her husband’s naturalization record states XX (hard to read) March 1918.

None of the online databases (Ancestry or Myheritage) have anything from California from that time.

Their names are Vilhelmine Victoria Marie Olsen (b. 22/3-1864) (Called Marie - and sometimes with her second married name Vogel) and Ceasar Christian Boetticher (b. 14/2-1858)

Any help is appreciated.

Looking for info on Elijah Davis Sawyer and wife Rebecca Weir. Elijah was a son of Earl Sawyer and Polly Davis of the Town of Freedom, Cattaraugus Co., NY. They lived in Napa Co. from the 1860's till at least 1892 per census and voter registrations. The trails gone cold and I could use a little help or advice on where to look next. Ferol Manley
Ferol E. Manley, 86, died Saturday at her Napa residence.
Mrs. Manley was born in Coria, Wis., on April 25, 1906, to Edward and Theresa Farley.
She moved to Olympia, Wash., where she married Edward Manley in 1929. Mr. Manley passed away in 1943.
Mrs. Manley came to Napa in July of l958 from Tacoma, Wash., and worked at Napa Savings and Loan as a bookkeeper for 14 years.
She was a member of the YLI Branch No. 26 and St. John's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Manley volunteered her time atg Queen of the Valley Hospital, was active at the Senior Center, and she enjoyed musci raing and visiting with friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Huntington of Tacoma, Wash., and JoAnn Brooks of Albuquerque, N.M; three sisters, Ileen Massey and Kathleen Franco, both of Napa and Val McCutchen of Lakeport; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends ae invited to attend a Catholic prayer service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., with Father Tim O'Sullivan of St. John's Catholic Church officiating. Inurnment will be at Tulocay Cemetery. Recitation of the rosary and a YLI service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitation at the funeral home will begin at noon on Tuesday.

Thank you SO much for all your hard work. It is greatly appreciated. +The curious thing with Anna is that she had passed in 1934,leaving her husband Lena and her two children,Donald and Fred.Donald and Fred were both adopted by the Thomas family soon after Anna died. Even though their maternal grandmother was still alive until 1956 and their father was alive until 1977,they were legally adopted. I find it strange that their maternal grandmother didn't take care of them following her daughter's death. Let's consider that maybe Antoinette was too old or too ill. Then what about Lena? I understand that he never recovered from the death of his wife and so either couldn't or wouldn't take care of his children. Very curious!

I didn't know how much information you have on this woman so I did the research below. Sometimes people seek obits more to try to find where the persons family was at the time. I did not find any information as to why this person died in Angwin per your information, if she was living there or just passing through. I found none of her family after 1930 or if she had remarried between 1930 and 34, thus potentially giving her children a foster/adoptive parent.

--So Mary was not a widow in the 1930 Census. This was common then.
--Leno died 26 Mar 1977 in Napa Co. His obit might be a source of information also.

I am looking for descendants of George J Robinson & Lottie Mae Barber, from Illinois & Iowa. Moved to Napa Co, CA after 1940. Lottie Barber/Robinson was born Jan 18, 1883 in Peoria Co, IL & died June 30, 1966 in Deer Park, Napa Co, CA. George Robinson was born Jan 5, 1876 in PA & died Dec 8, 1953 in Napa Co, CA. They are both buried in Saint Helena Public Cemetery, Napa Co, CA. they had Verna, mdIvan Mills, June, Florence, Kennith, Jean, Georgina, md Paul Turner who died in Napa C. 1982, that I know of as children. George & Lottie's headstone's have Father & Mother on them, so I am guessing that they had some of the children in the area. I am really hoping to find stories & photo's on Lotties, Barber family & Georges Robinson family.

R. Gene Lucas
R. Gene Lucas, 55, did unexpectedly Feb. 23 at Queen of the Valley Hospital.
A native of Rensseiear, Ind., Mr. Lucas was born Sept. 6, 1937, to Luther and Ella B. (St. Pierre)Lucas. He traveled throughout the world because his father was in the U.S. Air Force and he graduated from high school in Germany.
Upon completing his college education, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam. He obtained the rank of major upon his discharge.
Mr. Lucas settled in West Sacramento and ventured into several fields for the next 15 years which included real estate sales and restaurant management.
Hem moved to Yountville in 1991.
Mr. Lucas was a member of Scepter Lodge NO. 808 F.&A.M. of West Sacramento and the East Yolo Lions Club.
He enjoyed reading, writing, skiing and stained glass work.
Mr. Lucas is survived by his daughter,Pamela Robertson of Tindell Air Force Base, Florida, and four granddaughters.
At the request of the deceased, no service will be held and inurnment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Richard Pierce Funeral Service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Chapel Fund, in care of the Veterans Home of California, Yountville, 94599.

I have a death on an Andrew Ramsey who has died in Napa County. I need to find out if an obituary has been written up on him to see who his parents may be and any other information that can be sought. I'm more or less trying to rule out whether this one is mine or not. He is in the right age group for mine.

Andrew Ramsey, age 83, died on 20 Feb 1937 in Napa County, State File #14703.
