Looking for the Maleitzke Family. Raymond A. b. Mar. 18, 1919, it is said that he died in Feb. 1991 in Napa Valley, CA. His wife was Bernice Arlene (Douglas) Maleitzke who was b. July 21, 1916 in Grand Rapids, MI, and it is said that she also died in Napa Valley, on Feb. 20, 1987. Would like any information that can be found on them. They are my husband half aunt and uncle who when they moved out to CA from MI, all connection was lost. They had children that we also are try to find that are wondering around some place in the USA. Diana Lee, Rita Rae Winegarner, Jean Marie Medenhall, Betty Ann Strach/Stewart/Arnold, Robert August and Marvin Dean. There may be more children between Robert and Marvin. Would like to find the kids and learn more about the family that went in different directions from one end of the US to the other end.

I can probably help a little with this. My grandmother was Leona's sister, Irene Wachter/Jobe (she also married a Jobe man). My eldest aunt (Irene's eldest daughter is still alive and she might know).
My question is what is all about? I would also like to know some of the geneology on these two families.

I am hoping someone can help me on an oddity/rarity I found in the California Death Index.

Robert J Fitzpatrick born 3-1-1940 Massachusetts died
1-8-1971 Napa, California

Francis L Garcia born 3-1-1940 Massachusetts, died
1-8-1971 Napa, California

Two different men born on the same day in Mass. die on the exact same day in Napa, California. Trying to find out if they were both in the Military.

I have had no luck trying to find newspaper articles or burial records for either.

I am hoping someone might be able to look up their obituaries or notices in the Napa Area Newspapers, or can find their burial location.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for checking this for me. Shortly after I posted my question, a cousin found a reference to a California Star notice of the marriage. He scanned it and sent it to me, so that mystery has been solved. Apparently they married in San Francisco, but the newspaper isn't specific. I guess they must have moved to Napa sometime after getting married - all their children were born there and they both were buried there in Tulocay Cemetery.

I am a volunteer at the Napa Genealogy Library and check the Napa County Marriage Records and found nothing. Marriage records were not recorded until 1850 but I checked anyway.

Can you provide any other information on Catherine. Coombs was a pioneer family in Napa County but I could find nothing on Catherine in our records.

I am looking for further information on their marriage. The sfgenealogy site references a California Star notice of Nov 27, 1847 that they were married "24th inst", but doesn't say where. I assume "inst" means the most recent 24th, so it would be in CA and likely in Napa where they are on the 1850 census. Does anyone have any more info in this? Would Napa have records from then? I'd go find the newspaper article or visit Napa myself if I could, but I live on the other side of the world. Thanks for any info you might have.

I found yesterday that Warren was in Orange County when he passed - 12-21-1964.

Burial was in Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana so maybe that was where he lived (Santa Ana)?

I appreciate & apologize for you searching Napa Co when in fact just finding it was Orange Co.

Hello: I'am trying to locate any information at all on Warren H.Kinney who died in Calistoga on 2-11-1988.

Warren was born 10-9-1912 I believe in Nova Scota but no quite sure on that (Nova Scotia).

I'am told Warren may have had a sister Mary that was in California with him.
Also at one time he is said to have worked in an aircraft plant.

Any information on Warren would be so greatly appreciated.

Students Lincoln School Napa, 1916 Picture

I've attached my picture of students and a teacher at the Lincoln School, Napa, in 1916. There are approximately 50 children and one adult. This is one of the neatest pictures I've ever seen - the kids are holding dolls, teddy bears and items from home.

Can anyone help with identifying the students/teacher? I believe Lincoln School is/was on Main Street in Napa. My research is the DeWeese and allied families in Napa - going back to the 1860's in Napa. The family home is (and is still standing) in Browns Valley, at the corner of Browns Valley and Partrick. I'd love to find a relative in my picture or one of yours.

The Social Security Death Index shows the "last residence" as Napa 94558.

My brother and father-in-law both died in hospitals outside of the county where they lived and their SS Death Index entries both show their "last residence" being where they lived rather than where they died.

Nothing is necessarily easy in genealogy research, is it?

Have checked Napa County obits under both names and have not found an obit. All checked Napa County burial records and found nothing

Our local hospital, Queen of the Valley, serves Napa, Lake, Sonoma, Yolo and Solano counties so it is possible that he lived outside of Napa County.

Note difference of 1 yr in birth year and different surnames. HOFFMAN was William LAUBENSTINE's mother's maiden name.

Would love to know if Obit or Death Certificate lists parents, birth place, etc. I believe this to be a 1/2 brother of my late father. Could be under either name.

Emma Letitia Gyte was the daughter of Joseph Gyte, and Maria Goodwin. They were both born in Derbyshire, England. I have a photo of Emma as a young girl.

The Goodwins in Corcoran were cousins. Maria Goodwin Gyte was the sister to my Sarah Elizabeth Goodwin Arland. My mother remembers Goodwins living nearby in Corcoran when she was a child. (She turned 93 May 9, 2009.) She was sure they were cousins, but couldn't remember their names.

Great to hear from you ... you say you are descended from Sarah Elizabeth GOODWIN .. I believe her to be the daughter of John GOODWIN and Mary MORTIN ... I don't know when they went to the states but I suspect it was before 1851 .

I've searched my BVRI and a few other web sites which might have helped but I'm guessing you have already done that extensively .

What else do you know about John ...was he really born in 1805 ? ... how old was he when he died ?

I suspect Mary's father may well have been Henry MORTIN ...but thats a guess.

I'll keep looking and get back if I see anything.

Is it possible to scan a copy of the photo of Emma you mentioned previously ?

Upon checking further, it appears that John Langland died at the Veterans Home in Yountville. Obituaries generally do not appear in local newspapers unless resident was a Napa County resident prior to entry at Vets Home. You might want to check his county of residents; in this case, I believe it was Contra Costa County.

any births before 1870 are in NC. It is known they all were in Missouri in 1870 due to the birth of Lillie May Burkett (b.1870) listed as Missouri. The family after the death of Jesse Lee Minton and his wife Elizabeth Almira "Mira" Minton sometime in the late 1890's and early 1900's left and moved to the San Francisco are to work as dress makers and clerks in various businesses.
One individual Christian Edward Burkett is known to have moved north to Washington State area.

any information someone could provide would be helpful. I am attempting to find descendants of this family. Also Jesse Minton and Mira Minton are known to have dies in the Yountville, Napa County area. All the information I have is from census, birth and death records and family stories. I am hoping to find why they left and if any descendants are alive.

Leona Marie Jobe

Leona Marie Jobe, 79, died Sunday at her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Jobe was born in Alexandria, Minn., Jan. 28, 1906, and received her early education in Minnesota.

She came to California and Napa in 1948. She and her husband had owned Jobe's Auto Repair Shop in Napa for over 40 years.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was an expert in embroidering and crocheting.

She is survived by her husband, Walter of Napa; her son, Harlan of Napa; her daughter, Marlys Clark of Fremont; eight grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2521 Linda Vista Ave., on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Rev. James Zielke officiating. Burial will be in Napa Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at Napa Valley Memorial Gardens Mortuary, 2383 Napa-Vallejo Highway, until 8 p.m. tonight.

Contributions to the St. John's Lutheran Church Student Aid Fund are suggested.

Edwin R. Wachter

Edwin Rudolph Wachter, 67, of 359 South Hartson St., died Tuesday from injuries received while demonstrating farm equipment at the Norman Blachard Ranch on Pope Valley Road.

He was a native of Hader, Neb., and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the St. John's Mens Club.

Mr. Wachter is survived by his wife, Esther B. Wachter, Napa; two daughters, Mrs. Rober (Vernice G.) Miller and Mrs. Eldona E. Dragon, both of Napa; and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Jobe, Eldred, Minn. and Mrs. Walter Jobe, Napa. Also surviving are four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday 1:30 p.m. at the Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Otto Rohrer officiating. Interment will be in Tulocay Cemetery.

J. D. Boggs, 30, Lillian M. Burkett, 20, married 15 Apr 1890 by Jas. Mitchell; in St. Helena, Napa County, CA; witnessed by E. H. Baldwin and Carrie Church. He was born in CA; she in MO. His parents bornn in MO; hers NC (Bk 4; P 280)

I believe J. D. stands for Jefferson Davis and was a bookeepper & teacher. Listed in Great Register; same birthplace and age fits.

I am a volunteer at the Napa County Genealogy Library and found at Jesse Minton in the Great Register; he registered in 1880, 1888, 1892. In 1880 he was in Yount district, and in last two registers, St. Helena.

No death or burial information found.

Eldona Brumback

Eldona Edna Bumback, to, died Sunday at her Napa home following a long illness.

A native of Minnesota, Mrs. Brumback was born on Nov. 24, 1928, to Edwin and Esther Wachter. She received her early education in Minnesota and came to Napa in 1948.

She had worked to Title Insurance and Trust Company of Napa and for the past 13 years was the office manager for Upper Valley Disposal Services.

Mrs. Brumback enjoyed sewing and traveling, and was a member of the Napa Bowling League 600 Club.

She is survived by her husband, Harold of Napa; one daughter, Karen Hromadko of Livermore; one brothre, Alan Montellier of Napa; one sister, Vernice Miller of Napa; a stepson, Steve Brumback of Kelseyville; a stepdaughter, Carol Davis of Newcastle; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; and one great-stepgrandchild.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Napa Valley Memorial Gardens Mortuary, 2383 Napa-Vallejo Highway, with the Rev. Frank Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Napa Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Esther B. Wachter

Vallejo - Esther B. Wachter, 78, died Friday at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Vallejo following a brief illness.

She was born, raised and educated in Crookston, Minn. and married Edwin R. Wachter in Alexandria, Minn. May 12, 1926. He died in 1971.

Mrs. Wachter moved to Napa in 1948 and did child care for ten years. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening, playing cards ad senior citizen activities.

She is survived by two daughters, Vernice G. Miller and Eldona Brumbach, both of Napa; a brother, Arnold Radke of Indiana; three sisters, Leona Radke of San Diego, Stella Steinhorst of Minnesota and Gladys Raley of Chula Vista; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Radke.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral today at 5 in the chapel of Richard Pierce Funeral Srvice, 1660 Silverado Trail, Napa, with the Rev. John Mortensen officiating. Interment will be in Tulocay Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. Dedini has been a Napa resident for 45 years. She is survived by her husband, Lester D. Dedini of Napa. She was preceded in death by a sister.
