Also any information on the Cannery he owned and operated. The time period would be from 1910-? I believe he was Mayor sometime around 1940

Daily Topic, Oakland, Cal., 1907-10.
The above reference shows no China connection as of 1910 when it was written.

The reference belows was compiled in 1916, and shows him to be in China at that time. Perhaps you can pursue more information through Baptist channels

1916 Address book of the graduates and former students
By Newton Theological Institution
Walter Eugene Tanner, Albert Frank Ufford
Shaohsing, Chekiang Province, China

Also I came across the reference below that shows Tanner left Nevada in late 1911, so he probably went to China between 1912 and 1916

Nevada Observer, June 13, 2007
HISTORY OF NEVADA CHAPTER XXIII. RELIGIOUS. BAPTIST CHURCH.
BY A. G. SAWIN. 1912
http://www.nevadaobserver.com/Reading%20Room%20Documents/Rel...
Sparks.—The history of this church is a continuation of the history of the Ft. Wadsworth Mission and of the Wadsworth Church on a new field. On September 17, 1903, Rev. W. C. Driver preached the first sermon in the new town, a flat car being his platform and a box his pulpit. November, 1903, Major G. W. Ingalls and his wife organized the first Sabbath School at Sparks in the old Robinson house. Major Ingalls, as superintendent, and Mrs. Ingalls as Bible class teacher, successfully conducted the same until April 1, 1904. The older Wadsworth Church was reorganized under the name of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Sparks, Nevada. In June, 1904, the Rev. Frank H. Webster settled as missionary pastor and led in the erection of the house of worship and the building of the parsonage. Early in 1906, the property was seriously damaged by fire, but was promptly repaired and enlarged. He closed his work in the summer of 1907. Early in 1908, he was succeeded by the Rev. J. A. Sunderland, who closed his work in less than a year. After a few months he was followed by the Rev. S. G. Willson who closed his work in the fall of 1910, and December 1 was succeeded by the Rev. W. E. Tanner. Late in 1911, Mr. Tanner closed his pastorate, after which the church was ably supplied by Prof. R. C. Thompson of the State University.

Brian:

I find late 1907 news items about Rev. Tanner in the Oakland Tribune, but they seem to indicate that he was pastor of the Melrose Baptist Church (apparently in Oakland) at that time.

A 1908 news item features a photograph of Rev. Tanner. By February 1909 it seems that he is leaving the Melrose congregation in the wake of some controversy.

In 1910, Rev. Tanner and his family were enumerated in King City in southern Monterey County. (It's inaccurate to say that he lived in "Monterey, California," which is a city on the coast; Monterey County is quite large

In 1918, Walter applied for a passport. This document also includes a photograph (the same one that appeared in the Oakland Tribune a decade earlier).

If you would like me to send you the news items via email, please contact me at maryfobian [at] comcast [dot] net.
Walter Eugene Tanner was living in Monterey, California, in 1907. He helped start the First Baptist Church of Monterey. He caused quite a bit of controvery. There were news articles about him in the area papers in December of 1907. I do not know which ones. It must have been newspapers of the San Francisco/Monterey area.

The Monterey County Public Library has a genealogy room that has lots of material, though much of course is about California. Their microfilm has all the Monterey and PG papers. It's best to go online and run some searches on the on-line catalog to see what kinds of things pop up and where the materials are located. I don't know what direction you are traveling, but if you are near San Francisco, you should go to the Sutro Library, wonderful genealogical library (in the southern part of the city, easy to get to). Fresno main library also has a pretty good general genealogy room.

FOMA would be a good place.

Fort Ord Museum and Archive

FOMA Mission
For almost the entire span of the twentieth century, Fort Ord was one of the largest and most significant U.S. Army installations in the United States. Fort Ord itself and its formative influence on the U.S. military and on the life and communities of California's Central Coast have passed into history. It is a valuable history filled with many lessons to be preserved for current and future generations. As a joint project of California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and the Fort Ord Alumni Association (FOAA), FOMA seeks to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Fort Ord, the community, and the people who served and worked on the base. FOMA will promote the study of military properties and the impact of the base on the economic and social development of surrounding communities. It will serve as a learning and research resource for students and faculty at CSUMB, military and regional history scholars, veterans, and the general public.

California State University
Fort Ord Alumni Association
100 Campus Center, Bldg. 97
Seaside, CA 93955
Phone: 831-582-3595; Fax: 831-582-4117
Email: foma@csumb.edu
Web: CSUMB.EDU/foma

"but everything points to natural causes."
Shields said the boy, a student at Marshall Elementary School, was ill most of the day Saturday and was taken to Silas B. Hays Army Hospi¬tal, where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 o'clock that night.
Born March 51, 1980, in Fort Knox, Ky., Shawn was the son of Sgt First Class and Mrs. William Cannon of Fort Ord.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Kristina, and a brother, Jesse, both of Fort Ord; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Monroe of St Charles, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. James Alien of Cayce, S.C.
Funeral services are pending at the Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles.
One way to confirm whether the Eva Lyles who died in San Joaquin County was Eva Mae BROWN Wilder is to procure Eva Lyles' death certificate. Below is a link to the death certificate application form and instructions.

http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/birthdeathmar/Documents/4-200...

Another approach is to contact a major library in San Joaquin county to request an obituary lookup in area newspapers published at the time of Eva Lyles' death; it may mention relatives' names.

Hattie was living with Sadie and her husband Foster Kast at the time of her death. Though I'm not related to Sadie, I'm trying to locate relatives who may have some older pictures of Edward's family. I have a couple of him and also have at least one of all his siblings except my g.grandfather. Desperately seeking a photo of him.
Sounds like we're in the same family tree! My grandmother is Rose (Reumann), her father was Albert Reumann and her grandfather was William Reumann - wife Flora. I'm currently working on the family tree. I'd love to find out what you've been able to uncover.

Thanks,
Melissa

This was my problem. The hitch is in the death date. My wife says that she remembers her dad saying that she passed away in the late 60's or very early 70's. ??????
Everything else is correct.
Tom
