Cause of Boy's Death Unknown
The mysterious death of a 6-year-old
Fort Ord boy launched a house-to-house alert of every family on the base Sunday.
The contacting of the 4,678 fami¬lies by military and federal police resulted from the fear that Shawn
Cannon might have been given poison during Halloween trick-or-treating Friday night, authorities said.
However, an autopsy has proved negative on all tests relating to drugs or poisons, said
Capt Guy
Shields of the
Fort Ord Public In¬formation Of flee.
"We still don't know what the cause of death was,"
Shields said. "but everything points to natural causes."
Shields said the boy, a student at Marshall Elementary School, was ill most of the day Saturday and was taken to
Silas B. Hays
Army Hospi¬tal, where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 o'clock that night.
Born March 51, 1980, in
Fort Knox,
Ky., Shawn was the son of Sgt First Class and Mrs. William
Cannon of
Fort Ord.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Kristina, and a brother, Jesse, both of
Fort Ord; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira
Monroe of St Charles, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. James Alien of
Cayce, S.C.
Funeral services are pending at the Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles. Local services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the
Chapel of Seaside.
