I didn't find him in Ancestry or FamilySearch.

Have you gone to your local library and looked in the WorldCat computer database for a history book about Mendocino Co. for that timeframe. If the book resides in another library, they can have it delivered to your local library through inter-library loan.

You might want to contact the Held-Poague Memorial Home & Research Library, pacificsites.com/~mchs/heldpoage.htm . They have a great collection but their web site doesn't mention if they do research. Suggest a donation amount to them and they might do the research.

There are several other Historical and Genealogical Societies in the County. They're listed at pacificsites.com/~mchs/histgen.htm . Successful Searching!
