Ann Becker
Former Marin resident
Anne (sic) Margaret Becker, a resident of Hillsboro, Ore., died Nov. 13. She was 87.
Born in St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Becker was educated in St. Paul and there began her 40-year career with St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance. An Avid ice skater, she was the Winter Carnival princess one year. She also was a member of her church choir and drum and bugle corps, skied, and enjoyed acting in church productions. She was also a member of the Sierra Club and Volunteered with the Red Cross.
In the 1940s, she transferred to the insurance company's San Francisco office. In San Francisco, she met her husband, Alvin Becker, when they were both singers in a church choir. Together, they lived in St. Paul, West Virginia, Mill Valley and San Anselmo for 20 years. They moved to Hillsboro, Ore., in 1990.
While living in San Anselmo, Mrs. Becker was active in the First Presbyterian Church, where her husband served as the Sunday School superintendent. She taught Sunday School and worked as a volunteer for the Seek & Find Charity Thrift Shop.
In Hillsboro, she was active in the Sunset Presbyterian Church and enjoyed knitting booties and blankets for orphans overseas.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Becker of Hillsboro; two daughters, Lynn Moore of Hillsboro and Debora Duffee of Beford, Texas; and two grandchildren. A sister, Elizabeth Doig Keith, died earlier.
A memorial service will be held in Hillsboro on Tuesday.
