Franklin W. Gamble, a Mill Valley orchid nurseryman, died yesterday at his home following a short illness. He was 62.
A native of Wausan, Wis., Gamble had lived in California since 1921 and in Marin County since 1938.
For the past 25 years he operated an orchid nursery at his residence, 62 Shell Road, where he specialized in hybridizing orchids which were shipped to orchid growers all over the United States.
He was a member of the California and American orchid societies.
He and his wife, Mildred B. Gamble, also were foster parents to several homeless boys during the past 20 years.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Warren F. Gamble of Pacifica; two brothers, Martin Sonsen of Portland, Ore., and Leslie Gamble of Vietnam; and a sister, Mrs. Leslie Spivak of Sacramento.
At his request, there will be no funeral. Inurnment will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.
