I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. I am the in the process of trying to gather information about my great-grandfather's brother. Family legend states he and his wife moved to California and later someone in the family received a telegram that he had found gold. That was the last anyone had ever heard of him. We do know that Charles Schack and his wife Marie (Andersen) were in California during the early 1920s. I was under the impression that most "gold rushing" was done by then. However, does anyone know if there were still places in California where gold hunters could go and search claims? Were any records kept of this? I know he was living in Los Angeles up to 1923 and then there cease to be any records that anyone can locate. Thanks for your help!
