Fisherman's Body Found in IID Canal

NILAND, June 1 - the body of Donald Benson, who drowned in the All American Canal Memorial Day was found Friday about one mile from the point where he fell into the water.
Dep. Coroner Richard Ramirez said an unidentified Filipino was the first person to spot Benson's body floating in the Coachella branch of the canal.
A fisherman from Los Angeles pulled the body to shore and Benson's stepfather, A.B. Clay, removed it from the canal.
Ramirez said Clay had been patrolling the canal banks since returning from Redlands Memorial Day after going there to inform Benson's pregnant wife of his death.
The body was removed to the Thoirnton-Mason Mortuary in Brawley and will be sent to the Emerson Funeral Home in Redlands today."
