Death Certificates for Gr.Grandparents

I am starting to plan a quick trip to Fresno in order to try to obtain copies of my great-grandparents death certificates. Both died in Fresno in the early 1930's. Can anyone give some guidance or insights on how to do this successfully. I am not 100% positive on their complete, legal names, nor do I have their exact birthdates. I do have my great-grandmother's date of death. Will I be able to search myself or do I have to provide the info to the Hall of Record staff?

Thanks for any help.

I was advised to get as much info as I could before going to Fresno to get records (I'm out of state). You really need the accurate date, as you will be filling out a form for each person and for each type of record. If you are lucky they may check a day or two before or after the date you have, but don't count on it. You do not get access to search yourself, you have to have an employee do the search and you pay for each record depending on the type. At least this is what I had to do a few years ago when I went to Fresno. You might want to go to the main library also, which has a genealogy department, and you can look at old yearbooks, newspapers on microfilm, obits, etc. There is always someone there that can help. You might contact the library there by phone or online, and ask if they would look up info for you. Hope that helps a bit.

Give me names and I can check the CA death index for you to make sure Fresno is the county of death....and provide you with the actual date of death

Thanks so much for your reply. I know that they died in Fresno. They lived there since at least 1900. I have found an obit in the Fresno paper for my Great Grandmother, Kate, which included Date of Death. I have not found anything for my Great Grandfather. I'm hoping that Death Certificates will give me info to verify birth dates and places, and then leading to other clues. They were both born in UK. Below is the info I have on them:

John (sometimes as JNo.) Grummett
DOB: March 1854 (not confirmed) England
DOD: between 1930-1933 in Fresno

Kate Judge Grummett
DOB: June 1864 (not confirmed) Scotland
DOD: 10 Jan 1934 in Fresno

Thanks for any effort you are able to provide :)
