Hello,
I am looking for the name of the Rd that the Hamlet of Uno was on in Cosumnes Twp. also I am looking for a Plat Map of Cosumnes Twp.. I am trying to Locate the Ranch of:
DELBERT W THORNE Parcel: Township 008N, Range 012E, Section 7, He lived in Ono.
Also JOHN B FARNSWORTH Parcel: Township 008N, Range 012E, Section 18 He and his wife ran the Store and Post office in UNO.
Thank You
Kurt
Here is a map the red dot spot indicating the Umatilla gold mine, http://californiamaps.org/place.php?county=El+Dorado&fea...
Zoom in.
I believe the 'Uno Mine' was to the east of the Umatilla Mine un-named road and to the north. The 'No Mine' RD. (No 1 Mine RD? or was the U dropped?) a little to the north is probably actually the old Uno Mine RD. If you look at the satellite map, of this area you will see old trails that connect the Un-named Rd. and No Mine Rd. The County Rd that is mentioned in the census records is likely either Omo Ranch RD. or Cedar Creek / Coyoteville Rd.
I believe this un-named Rd or Uno / No Mine Rd is where Delbert THORNE lived.,
I think this is where Uno actually was 'NOT' on Cedar Creek RD (Coyoteville), as mentioned by Doug NOBLE in his report on old Post Offices, but very close. However it would be nice to compare the property to a plat map, or County Township Atlas.
Uno was in the Fair Play district, in 1910, Delbert and Martha THORNE lived two Farm houses down from the Post Office/Store owned by John B. and Sarah FARNSWORTH (1892-1914), With Jonas WHITE in Between. The two following Delbert were Henry H. MONSEES and Ray C. MURPHY the census ended. And before the Store/PO. were the families of Frank GOFFINET William H WARREN, And Ellis WILLIAMSON

UNO: The Uno Post Office was established on Feb. 12, 1892 with Leander C.
Morris serving as the first of only three postmasters: Morris (1892), Sarah FARNSWORTH (1892-1914) and Nancy Giles (1914-1920). Uno was located about two miles to the southeast of Mt. Aukum on Cedar Creek, but rarely shows up on early maps, and never on those made after the 1880's. It is believed by some that the reason there is so little information on Uno is that it may also have been known as Coyoteville. The name is believed to have come from the Spanish word for "one", although that too is questioned by some. Apparently the only business in town was the FARNSWORTH store, in which the Post Office was conveniently located. Nothing remains of Uno, or for that matter, Coyoteville.

In 1920 Martha THORNE is still living there and two doors down from the Post office ran by Nancy Giles (1914-1920)
They were living next door to Harper and Rose WHITE, Martha and the Uno Store is one a Private Road, when the Census taker goes to their house it is the last one there, as next he is on a County Road (Which County RD?)........, before the PO/Store was the William WALLOUPE family, the Frank GOFFINET and the Blair FRENCH family.
I imagine some of these people lived across the street from each other, Could it be this road was a dividing road between sections........
"Uno Mine
The Uno Mine was a placer gold, drift mine three miles south of the town of Fair Play, near the site of the former town of Uno."
