Gann and Strader

BLM records show Tolman GANN, public land patentee, 160 acres, issued 10 Sep 1880, Calaveras Co., Calif. Tolman Thomas Gann, b 1842 in Missouri, m 27 Sep 1867 in San Joaquin Co., Calif., to Delilah Jane STRADER, b bef 1848, Coles Co., Ill. Tolman's parents were cousins Thomas Gann, b 1817 in Tennessee, d in California, and Roseanna Gann, b 1819 in Tennesse, d probably in California, m 1839 in Lafayette Co., Mo. Delilah's parents were Rawleigh/Rolly Strader, b 1809 in Kentucky, d 1865 in Coles Co., Ill., and Sarah H. "Sally" STEWART, b 1811 in Barren Co., Ky., d 1863 in Coles Co., Ill., m 1831 in Coles Co., Ill. I'm seeking death dates and locations of Tolman and Delilah and would like to exchange information with their descendants. Delilah Strader was a sister to my g-g-grandfather, Lemuel Jackson Strader, b 1848 in Coles Co., d 1929 in Vernon Co., Mo., m 1868 in Coles Co., to Mary Margaret HALLETT, b 1846 in Coles Co., d 1938 in Vernon Co. The Straders and Ganns may have first met in Bates or Vernon Co., Mo., where Rolly Strader bought public land in 1857-58-59 before returning to Illinois. Some members of the Coles Co., Ill., Strader family are believed to have first come to California's Gold Rush country in 1849-50, followed by a second group in 1865. There is a Strader Avenue in Sacramento, Calif., and once were, I believe, Strader streets in Stockton and San Francisco. I'm also interested in sharing information with Strader descendants. -- Please contact me directly if possible: Len Klempnauer, Capitola, Santa Cruz Co., Calif., email: LaRaKa3936@aol.com.
The proprietors are S.W.D. HILL and E.R. TIEL, both practical printers. J.G. SEVERANCE, late of Amador county, is to be the editor. We wish the ‘Register’ all reasonable success, and think it has chosen a good filed. Calaveras is sadly in need of a sound Union newspaper.
Goodwillie) and tell me his occupation, where he lived and whom he lived with?
Much is written about his brothers and sisters, but all I could find on him is that he went to California in 1850, stayed about 12 years and died in Woonsocket, South Dakota in 1890. I have a feeling he was the family black sheep, and therefore, probably the most interesting.
Thanks!

I have found Josiah Learned married 3rd wife Sarah. Nancy Learned was Josiah's daughter from 2nd wife Saphronia. I find Sarah , sons Oscar and Albert in Murphys in 1880 census and Mrs Learned home identified on 1876 map of murphys. In a 1965 map of murphys a writeup with the map says Oscar Learned's father (Josiah) was murdered by Joe Wade on a moonlit night almost in the front yard of Oscar's home. Does anyone have the history of Learned's in Murphys and what the real story of Josiah may be and where he may be buried?

I am looking for further information on John Watson Phillips and his wife Lois Ramey Phillips. They settled in Paloma near the Gwin Mine. I am wondering where they are buried? I have looked around the Paloma area for a cemetary and could not find one. Had a hard enough time finding Paloma. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Birth/Obit: Walter Noland, 1918

It appears in the CA Birth Index that my grandmother, May Beatrix (Head) Noland, may have given birth in Calaveras Co. on 11-Dec-1918 to a son, Walter Noland. (The father was William A. Noland.) Unfortunately, Walter does NOT show up in the 1920 census, when the family was living in Stanislaus Co., so I can only assume that he passed on before then. I'd appreciate any info on Walter's birth or death.

I am researching the line of William Carsoner >Thomas Carsoner >Dan Carsoner of the Calaveras/Tuolumne County areas.

I have extensive information on the line and am willing to share information with persons connected to the line. I am endeavoring to determine when Mary Anna Dick (Chalk-d-yet) wife of William Carsoner, who was Miwok Indian, died. Also would like to know the name and other information of the wife of Dan Carsoner (b.1909).

I have photos that I am willing to share.

The name Carsoner is often spelled Casner/Carsner. The California line most often spelled the name Carsoner.
Stephens, which indicate they were both buried in Altaville Cemetery.

Thanks for your help!
Linda Deppner

BURCE, employed for some months in the office of Wells, Fargo & Co.'s Express at Mokelumne Hill, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a revolver. He was alone in the office at the time, and the motives which prompted the deed cannot be conjectured. He was a youth of quiet, orderly habits, given to industry, and had at times an appearance of melancholy. It is possible that the shooting may have
been accidental, resulting from a careless handling of the pistol; but the general impression is that, under temporary mental aberration, he committed suicide. His father and mother reside at the Hill.
The family lived in Frederick Co., VA, area in the early 1830's and moved to MO in the late 1830's, settling and resettling several times, finally locating in Randolph Co. by 1849.

Hez disappears from the records after 1860, both in CA and MO.
Looking for information on JOHN H. MOFFITT found in CA death record. He was born Dec. 4, 1910, in Colorado, and died July 28, 1972 in Calaveras, CA.

He is on the 1930 Census living with his aunt, ANNA PETTIGREW (or Pettegrew) and her husband, JOHN W. PETTIGREW in Oakland.

His father was born in CA and his mother was born in KANSAS. It looks like his father was the son of JOHN MOFFITT of Rhode Island, and CAROLINE STARKEY AINSWORTH of California.

I am working on an extended STARKEY family line and would very much like to sort out the STARKEY - AINSWORTH - MOFFITT branch.

artifacts in gold mines near Mountain Ranch

I am an author of books on archeological mysteries, such as Forbidden Archeology. Once after I spoke on a radio program, one of the listeners told me about some discoveries of human artifacts in gold mines near Mountain Ranch. In my book Forbidden Archeology, I document artifacts found in gold mines at Table Mt. in Tuolumne Cty, and other nearby places. They were found in layers of rock millions of years old, which is interesting. If anyone has any information about similar finds made near Mountain Ranch, and feels like passing it on, then send it to me at mcremo@cs.com.

Regards,
Michael Cremo

George W. COX killed his son-in-law (last name unknown) in Calaveras Co., CA. and was executed in that county Aug. 31, 1888, the last man hung in the jail yard. He was interviewed by a reporter before his execution, and gave some family data. George Wasshington Cox is buried in Peoples Cemetery, San Andreas, Calaveras County, California. I am assuming he was executed in San Andreas. Does anyone know of this happening or have access to the newspaper interview referred to? I would be very happy to pay for a copy of anything regarding this subject.

I'm trying to find out where my gggrandparents were before they came to Calaveras County in 1857. I believe they were in Arkansas and born in Tennessee. His name was George Washingtion Osborn. He had several mines in and around Angels Camp. His wife Rebecca died in the 1860's. They had about eight children. Some of the family still live in the area.
He was born about 1825.
John Gabbert and Lodicy Hughes

John Gabbert was born 1813 in Cumberland Co, KY. He married Lodicy or Lodicia Hughes(born 1827) in 1841 in Andrew Co, MO. In 1850 his wife(under the name Luditha Gabbert) is living with the family of Jesse Cox(relationship?) in Andrew Co, MO with 3 small children: James 6, William 3 and Jacob 1.
According to one Gabbert researcher John moved to Calaveras Co, MO but no date is given, and died in 1889. In 1851 in Andrew Co, MO Martin VanSchoiack married a Lydia Gabbert. My question is why did John go to CA without his wife. Divorce?
Can anyone put his wife in CA after 1850? I can find no trace of any woman named Lydia Gabbert before the record of the marriage to Martin VanSchoiack. Is Lodicy Huges the same person as Lydia Gabbert? Does anyone have another wife for John Gabbert in Calaveras Co?
