I have the SS # 556-03-5795 and the last address was just listed as Angels Camp, Ca . He was listed as having died in Alameda County records so he may have been in a hospital there. For $27 you can mail to the SS admin. for a copy of his original SS application which might have some info on it that would help.
The local newspaper is the Calaveras Enterprise. They have a website and you might e-mail and ask if anyone at the paper would look up the obituary, which was probably printed in March , 1980 since he died Feb. 27.

Gerald Popenhagen was my father's cousin. I've only just begun to research my family history and my father who is living could only give me scant information but one of the things he did remember is that he had an uncle named Fred Popenhagen who had a son named Gerald. My father's brother Johnny Popenhagen also was living in Angel's Camp but died in the San Francisco area.

I also live near Angel's Camp, Calif. but have yet to do any research there. Most of my family is in Michigan.
