Looking for the descendents of Henry B. Collins...his sons who lived in Ca in 1899 were:

Amos in Jenny Lind Ca
Anderson, possibly Henry A. Collins,
Spencer, Calaveras Co
Robert Bruce

I had these names but no locations in a gedcom given to me by another family researcher, but she did not know where the sons of henry went...i have found that info and am looking to trade info with other descendents...my ancestor was Alvin Collins who was the oldest child of Henry Bennett Collins i have dates and other info that i am willing to share on these and other family members...
does anyone have census info on these men and their families in 1900 thank you.

Gloria, I think my husband is related to this family. His ggrandmother was Cloudy Collins, who was born 1879 in Calaveras Co., CA. Her death certificate lists her father as Amos Collins, born in PA. I don't know much else about this family. Cloudy had four or five siblings, I know there was a son named Claude and a daughter named Odessa.

I've never looked them up on the census, but would be happy to, and send you what I find. I would love to hear from you and what you know about the family. We had reached a dead end at Amos. :-)

If this is the same amos then i can get you back quite far on amos mother and his fathers sides, My amos was born in 1834 which of couse fits in age wise to have a dau born in 1879. my amos was the 2nd son, my 4th ggrampa being his older brother by 2 years. If this is your amos you should be able to find him in the 1880 census in calaveras co because shortly before that in 1876 sr early 1877 is when the family went west. on the census you will find his wife also. I do not have a wifes name listed, but i do have a neat piece of news print that includes him, if mine and yours turn out to be the same. you may want to check out the Jenny Lind, CA census for 1900 to see if he is there, and see if any info from the 1880 census matches, because if so then it is a match for us. you will possibly also find that he fought in the civil war UNION, from WI or MN, because that is the migration pattern, and i have one brother that joined up in WI and one in MN...but look at the census first because you can usually find someone to do it for free, or at the LDS family history center unless you have a subscription to Ancestry? let me know asap, because it could prove really interesting, because i have just been in touch with another (easily proven) CA collins from another brother... there were 11 siblings in this line.... i hope we have a match!!! gloria... if you want to email privately please feel free to do so

Hi. I am descended from Benjamin Collins, son of Henry Bennett Collins, who lived at various times in the late 19th century in Stanislaus Co and Oregon. I was not aware of other Collins relatives who lived in Calaveras or that area, but suspected that there may be some. What information, pictrues, or documents do you have? I have very little and the only thing I have from before my great-grandfather Miles is one dark, old picture of Benjamin Collins and one of his brothers.

I am related to Henry Bennet Collins oldest son Spencer Collins. I still live here in Northern California. I have a few photos of Spencer but nothing farther back than that. We should compare notes. - Sean

Great. I also live still in Northern California, as do many other descendants of Henry Bennett Collins's son Benjamin. I have been in contact with Gloria, descendant of Alvin Collins, who has also posted on here, so I am not sure what I can add by way of information, but I'll provide what I can. I would love any information you can give on family's history, if you know anything about Henry Bennett Collins, his past, how or when they settled in California, and what you might know about Spencer and his siblings. I would also be interested in some basic information on Spencer's history and descendants. What I am most interested in at this point, though, is any primary documents or pictures. I would be interested in a picture of Spencer. Are any of his siblings in any pictures? As I indicated, the photo I have seen (a cousin has it) has Benjamin and a "brother" who is apparently older. It may be Spencer or Alvin perhaps. He has a moustache and it is c. 1850. As for Spencer's line, where, in general, did they settle? Calaveras, apparently. Anywhere else? I know that Benjamin Collins was living in Empire in Stanislaus County at the time of the 1880 census, and I know that some of his fmaily lived all up and down the San Joaquin Valley although my great-grandfather, his son Miles, settled in the Bay Area. I have some census info for Henry Bennett Collins, but only up through 1860. Do you have any? Well, that's rambling and disjointed, but it's a start.

Many of the Collins names you listed are buried in Calaveras County. Amos Wright Collins is buried in Jenny Lind Cemetery and so is his wife Susie Phillips Collins. There is a divorce file at the county archives for Percy H. Collins and his wife Irma L. that might be a family member.
Amos has a probate file at the county archives which might provide more documented info on his children and property he may have owned when he died. There is also a 1879 probate for a John Collins and one for a Robert Lewis Collings, Susie Collins and William G. Collins.
The county charges $10 for research and 25cents a page plus mailing for making copies and it might be worthwhile to have these files looked at and anything interesting copied. You can reach the Archivist at calaverasarchives@att.net
Currently the archives are only open 2 days a week due to budget cuts and they may end up closed totally if the budget for Calaveras County gets worse.
I can do a bit of research on births, marriage, deaths from the county indexes if you give me names of the women and men in the family. There are quite a few older Collins females getting married and some of them may be family members. You mentioned an Oddessa who may be Laura "Dessa" who married George Willis for instance.
