Looking for information about Juan Alviso, In Calaveras County in 1858 to 1884. A cattle dealer and farmer. His Daughter Teresa married my GGrandfather Benito Arata 1868 in San Andras. They lived in Jenny Lind and Milton. Any information would be a great help. Thank you, Don Arata

Box 26: Arata, Theresa Incompentency 1919
(she was declared incompentent and Andrew J. Arata took over as her guardian. Anna Cassas filed against him claiming he had put Theresa in an institution and was spending her assets. Anna claimed to be a first cousin by cosanguinity while Andrew was a relative by affinity. I do not believe this Theresa is your Theresa but added this info in case I am mistaken)

TAX ASSESSMENTs
Juan Arviso Year: 1868. Located on the south side of the Calaveras River and known as the Arviso Ranch. 1 wagon, 3 cattle, 12 goats, 4 horses or mules, hay and grain, 1 dog. Land assessed at $300. (not sure if this is Juan Alviso because he signed his name Arviso)

Juan Alviso. Year 1880. 1 wagon, 4 Spanish horses, 5 calves, 25 goats, 25 kids, 9 hogs, furniture, 12 chickens, 1 dog, one dwelling house tax on it: $25. Residence: Jenny Lind. (this time the name is clearly signed Alviso)

I did not check every tax assessment book, only those two years.
Other than the tax assessments that show he was in the county, I could find no other record of Juan Alviso. He did not show in the Great Registry of Voters, is not in the death records etc. Like many, he probably lived a quiet life and left little record to show what he did or anything else about his family.

Thanks for the information. It all helps. I think the Alviso's had a quiet life and after Benito and Teresa left for Windsor, in 1883, they returned to Mexico in 1886.
