I am trying to find an obituary for my 2ND cousin. Her name was Cleora Mae Thornton and she died on 3-9-1990. Her last known address was in Altaville, Calaveras County, California. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

I would love to find her two living grandchildren also. Here is what I know about her. She was born 5/30/1924 in Yavapai County, Arizona. She was the daughter of Luther Baker Collum and Mary Halcomb Keese. She married Ralph Esler Monroe, and they had one daughter, Joyce. Joyce married Devin Thompson and had two children.

Wow, how on earth did you find that so quickly? Thank you very much for all you help. This gives me several more clues to track down.

I just checked the death index again for the Thornton name and found this death: Thornton, Billy Wayne Born 12/14/1932  Abilene, TX. Died 07/16/1980  Murphys, CA. Recorded in Book 15, Page 202. Buried in Murphys, CA: Protestant Cemetery. Age 47 yrs. Funeral charged to Cleora Thornton. Korean War veteran. Suicide. Merchant. Married.   ( Info from Angels Mortuary Bk. 5, p. 285)

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. Until this very moment, I didn't know where to look for her 3rd husband. Could you tell me what book you are using? I have a truck load of Collums who died in Santa Clara County. Would this book cover that area and how do I purchase it?

I index births, marriages and deaths that show in the Calaveras County papers, mortuary books etc so we can help people search for their ancestors. There are no books or lists of such records available to the public. The county recorders office does have all old birth, marriage and death certificates but they are not set up to do look-ups for anyone.
There must have been a reason that Cleora Mae Thornton was living in Calaveras County. There are other Thornton names listed but I have no way to know if they are tied to her or not. We only have info on Calaveras County so you should post on the Santa Clara County message board to see if someone there might be able to help with the Collum name.
