I'm searching for descendants of Minnie Mugford Meiss. Minnie married Henry Meiss and they lived in Amador County. Their children were Ethel Averitt (b. Oct. 1888), Dora, Foundtain, Marion, Lillian and Mildred Meiss (b. apr. 1900).

My husband is a descendent of the Christian/Elizabeth Schnieder Meiss family. John Daniel Meiss, their son, married Minnie Mugford. Dan, as he was known, was named after Elizabeth Schneider's father and lived in Sacramento. He was born 5 June 1870 and died 14 April 1973. Minnie was born 16 April 1885 and died 15 Dec 1965. Her mother's maiden name was Roper. Dan was a great uncle to my husband.

Interesting. We believe "our" Minnie Mugford [1866-1909]married Henry Meiss, son of Louis and Elizabeth[Dorn]Meiss in 1887.

I think I've seen bits and pieces of info on Christian Meiss and there seems to be a number of people researching the surname.

The MUGFORDs and MEISSs do seem to be mixed in a bit. Bonnie

Hello Judy, I need to correct info for your family history. I am a descendant of Louis Meiss Sr. and I am doing extensive research to write a book on Louis and his family, parents, siblings, and children. There are four Minnie Meiss' that I have found. First, the daughter of Louis' brother Augustus Meiss, Mignon A. "Minnie" Meiss Sked. The second is Minnie E. Meiss who was the daughter of Edward P. H. Meiss, the son of Henry D. Meiss, another of Louis' brothers. Minnie E. Meiss' mother, Mary Belle Cummings died at the time of Minnie's birth and Minnie then went to live with her mother's parents, the Cummings. The third is your ancestor Minnie Margaret PANNING Meiss b. 16 Apr 1885 d. 15 Dec 1965 her parents were Henry PANNING and Maud ROPER. Minnie and John Daniel Meiss are buried together at the East Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento. The last is my ancestor Minnie Mugford Meiss. Minnie Mugford married Louis' son Henry Fredrick Meiss. Minnie Mugford Meiss is buried in Reno, Nevada where Henry and his brother Louis Jr. were in business together in the Meiss Bros. Meat Market. I have been dying to connect with anyone in Christian's line.
