There is books on Yell County Cemeteries and the Volume that contains Moores Chapel Cemetery is Volume 1 compiled in 1993 by the Yell County Historical and Genealogical Society PO Box 622 Dardanelle, AR. 72834 if you want to purchase a copy. I have a copy of Volume 1 & 2 and would do a lookup for you. Who you want may not be listed because there is lots of field stones in that cemetery. My grand parents on both sides of my family are burried there. You can contact me at samweldon@sbcglobal.net if you want me to look for someone.

The Funeral Home should know where he is buried
and have a map of the cemetery. I have family
buried there also but I do not know of the name
Hood. I would advise you to go to the cemetery
office or the funeral home and see if they can
give you a map. Most big Cemetery's like that
have maps of their Cemetery's and what area the
people are placed at. I just wished every cemetery
did that. I am looking for one that is suppose to be
in a cemetery but can not fine the headstone anywhere.
Good luck.
Betty

Does anyone know if there is a layout of where a particular grave might be in Moore's Chapel? My GGrandpa John Franklin Wallace is buried there, but had a very tiny marker (light a foot stone) to mark his grave. My cousin was down there recently and has said the marker is out of place. We would like to put it back exactly where it belongs, but aren't sure where that was. We truly believe that it was in line with is brother's grave, Sam Wallace, and others. But, now it is over near some cousins of his. Is there something that tells who was buried in what row or something? Thank you so very much.

Are you kidding? There is no cemetary office and don't depend on the funeral home to know either. They don't keep records of where people are buried. The do keep records of who and when back so far. If you want the phone number for them it is 479-495-2525.

Your reply solved one of my questions. Refer to my reply concerning Louisa Neal. I have not found the 1889 census for any of this family. You have. Eliza Neel was actually Elvira Neal. I was told that she died as a young child, even a baby. But apparently not. Records for the family of Alfred Neal are scarce, a lot of hearsay. But the ages for Elvira/Eliza and her sister, Mary Ann, are correct as are the other facts, i.e. places of birth, residence in Magazine, Yell County, AR. Thank so very much. My husband has a number of ties to Yell County, even unto this day. Families include Barnett, Neal, Baird and Orr. All except Barnett have been a problem at one time or the other.

Just a caution. I wouldn't be so quick to assume that Eliza is Elvira. Eliza could be Louisa. If Elvira was alive in 1870, where was she? Since Louisa was alive in 1880, where is she? You'll probably want to find all three in 1870 and 1880 before you can assume that Elvira did not die as a young child. It's that kind of thing that makes this fun, right? :-)

She was living with her son George, his wife, and Bertie then. There was a son John b. 1875 on the 1880 census.

Do you know who the parents of Obediah and John W. Wood are? Do you have more siblings of Obediah and John?

I have an Isaac Wood b. 1784 in NC. In 1850 Yell Co., AR, among other children, Isaac had a son John Wood with him, b. 1837 in Arkansas (probably Johnson County.) I've lost John after 1860. Can't ever find him again. He isn't in the civil war company that his brother David C. Wood joined. I'm wondering if you've ever come across this John Wood.

Janet

I found a marriage record (Arkansas Marriages, 1851-1900)for a D. N. Goodman (age 22) and Elizabeth E. Ward (age 16), married August 22, 1883, Yell County, AR. I suspect these two may be my husband's paternal ggrandparents for the following reasons: Daniel R. Goodman (husband's ggrandfather) was living in Sulpher Springs, Montgomery County, AR in 1880; he was born in 1861 in Alabama. He married Emzy/Emza Ward, born May 1865 in Arkansas. I suspect her name may have been Emma Elizabeth and she was called Emza/Emzy for short. I found an Elizabeth Ward living in Onyx, Yell, AR in the 1870 census, age 5. Does anyone have any information on this couple?
Thanks in advance,
Mitzi

I note that the onlyreply you have received is from my husband's first cousin once removed who lives in Yell County. We have about the same information. I think I can say that the Louisa Ann for whom you are searching is not the daughter of Alfred Neal and Elizabeth Polk. I have researched the family for at least 25 yeara.

Louisa Neal, born 1831, and her sister, Mary Ann, died as spinsters. They are shown with their father in Magazine, Yell, Arkansas, in 1870. Although they both died in 1883, I am not able to locate them in either the printed 1880 census that I have or on ancestry.com census records. Louisa born August 16, 1831, died October 11, 1883, and buried in Dacus Cemetery in Yell County. Her sister, Mary Ann, was born December 16, 1832, and died September 12, 1883, also buried in Dacus Cemetery.

Their brother, William, was born in 1836, and died as a result of exposure in the Civil War. I researched for a number of years with Mrs. Hazel Neal whose husband was the descendant of Alfred's oldest child, Jame Monroe Neal. He and my husband's ancestor, Emily Neal, wife of James Moore Barnett, were the only two children to have children as far as I can ascertain.

I hope this solves part of your problem

Bena Taylor Kirkscey

Re: Louisa Ann, Alfred and Elizabeth Polk Neal of TN and Yell Co. AR

Thank you for your reply. Since I posted this originally I have discovered that, although Elizabeth and Alfred Neal did live in the 2nd Civil District in Shelby County at the proper time, they indeed were not the parents of my great-great-grandmother Louisa Ann. My latest theory is that she is the daughter of James and Nancy, whose last name was variously spelled Neal, Neel, and Neil in the records, and who also lived within Civil District 2 after marrying in either Sumner or Wilson County in middle TN. Some of their other children lived in the Shelby County area for some time after my ancestors married. I have not yet proven this lineage, but I have reasonably concluded that you and your husband's cousin are correct and I was not. Thank you for taking the time to respond, and I hope my actual Neal/Neel/Neil heritage proves to be as interesting as your own!

Louisa Ann, Alfred and Elizabeth Polk Neal of TN and Yell Co. AR

I am researching Louisa Ann Neal, born 6/27/1832 in TN, to I BELIEVE Alfred and Elizabeth Polk Neal, who were the only Neal family living in Shelby Co. TN in 1850. Louisa married Edward T. Scott around 1858 in Shelby County. They had 12 children and later lived in Tipton Co. TN until their deaths. Louisa died 3/13/1892 and is buried in Shelby Co. TN with Ed. However, 1860 and 1870 census records show Louisa Neal (3 years younger than mine) living with Alfred in Yell Co. AR and other researchers say she died there in either 1853 or 1877, but I haven't seen any sources for those dates. Ed Scott's sister married William H. Neal, who I believe to be Louisa's brother and the son of Alfred and Elizabeth. Also, Louisa's brother James Neal married Martha Louisa George. Can anyone tell me if I have these Louisas mixed up, or if my Louisa is someone else's daughter? I am totally stumped! I have VERY extensive records to prove Louisa and Ed were married and lived in West TN and I have seen the headstone with their names together on it, so I know she's here, I just can't prove where she's from...please help! Thanks!

My great grandmother was Susan Wood born in Dardanelle, Ark on Jun 22, 1855. I don't guess there's any connection. She was supposed to be Cherokee Indian raised by a white family when her parents were killed.

My grandmother Nellie lived in TX when she passed away. There was nothing listed in her obituary about her parents because she never said. She was only 1 when her mother passed away. She stay in touch with a few of her family but never metioned them to me. When my mother passed away in November I found two letters written by two sisters in 1940. I know Alexander Perkins met Susan in Arkansas and she moved to TX to get married.

I don't have too much information. My grandmother never talked about her mother. She said she was native american. She married Alexander Barnard Perkins in Gatesville, TX 30 Aug 1873. I'm not sure if the Susan Woods on the census was related or not. My greatgrand mother had 11 children all born in TX.

I am researching an interesting gospel singer from north Arkansas. His music is out of this world, but all I know about him is his name: Prophet G. Lusk. Do you know any member of the Lusk family from Arkansas involved in gospel music? I am very interested in speaking with them.
