Hi, She died in 1910 in White County, Ark. She was a member of the Baptist Faith. Her son-in-law was Judge Henry Giedinghagen, and she was over 80 years old at the time of her death. Would someone be able to help me find an obit on her? The last census she was in, she lived in Sidon. That was in 1910, the same year of her death.
Thank you in advance. Donna

Can anyone tell me who takes care of or keeps records for Carter Cemetary in white co. ?? My great grandmother and great uncle are buried there. I was there in April, and couldn't locate their plots or anyone who could help me find where it was. We walked around the cemetary for over an hour before we just had to give it up. It is a fairly large cemetary, and not knowing exactly where to look made it very difficult. My dad seems to remember they worked for a family with the name of "Lawson", and thought maybe they were buried close to them, well......there were Many "Lawsons" buried there. ..... :-( the names I am looking for are : Mary E. Key b: 1858 d: 1958 and her son Willis Leander Key b: 1899 d: 1959
Thanks in advance,
Diann Waddell (nee: Key)
JUDGE FAMILY IN WHITE COUNTY

Are there any Judge Family members still in White County? My Great Great Grandmother was Margaret E. Judge that married William Boyd there in 1878, then married my GG-GF (Frank Fears) there in 1882. I have found nothing on her parents or where she was buried. Last known to have lived in Franklin County with husband Frank Fears and children 1883-1890. She may have remarried after 1890. State of Arkansas shows no burial for Margaret Fears. Any help would really be appreciated.

Thank you!!

Billy Teague (BTBTNurse@aol.com)

R. C. Baxter m. Mary H. Woosley 1938 Greene Co, AR

Looking for information on:
Mary H. Woolsey born about 1912 in probably Paragould, Greene County, Arkansas (some say maybe Bald Knob, White County, Arkansas) – Mary probably died in Chicago, Illinois. (Mary was probably named after Hattie’s sister.) Mary was in both the 1920 and the 1930 Census’ with her parents. Mary married R. C. Baxter – married in 1938 in Greene County, Arkansas.

Mary's mother was:
Harriette ‘Hattie’ Clark was born January 11, 1881, in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee and died between 1969 and 1970 in probably Texas, according to family stories; family stories also mention that she was married three times. She was married probably first to Henry Wilson ‘H. W.’ Woosley of Paragould, Greene County, Arkansas – Henry was born November 03, 1867 in Shelbyville, Bedford County, Tennessee and died after 1949 (will recorded that year) in Paragould, Greene County, Arkansas – they were both buried in Paragould, Greene County, Arkansas; Hattie was 90 when she died in about 1970 in probably Texas. Hattie grew up in Bald Knob, Ark with her Clark family (James Harrison Clark and Harriett A. C. Alexander Clark).

Any help with this family would be appreciated,
lindajcox3@hotmail.com

Charles Richard ‘Dick’ Whitmore m. Anna Clark m. Mr. Weber

Anna Clark was born February 1881 (1900 Census for Bald Knob, although Hattie, her cousin/half sister was born January 1881 to Mary’s sister Hattie, so the dates are too close to be too true if correct – maybe Anna was really born 1882 – the 1910 Census for Paragould shows Anna born 1888 – that date is too late) in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee and she died after 1937 in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington - Dick and Anna married probably before 1898 in probably Bald Knob, White County, Arkansas.

In 1900 Dick Whitmore was a railroad brakeman in Bald Knob, White County, Arkansas living with wife Anna and daughter Ruth – near many members of the Clark family; that census also says that his father was born in Virginia and his mother born in South Carolina.

In 1910 Dick, Ann and Ruth lived near to her sister Harriet and Henry Woosley in Paragould, Green County, Arkansas; that census says that his mother and father were born in Tennessee.

According to family history they lived later in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee; Dick later went to Texas and probably died there.

Anna and Dick had 1 child:
Ruth R. Whitmore was born May 1899 in probably Bald Knob, White County, Arkansas, and it has been said, according to family records, she later moved to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Anna and Dick at some point, after 1910, had separated and Ruth was sent to stay with (Anna’s step-sister, Ruth’s Aunt) Hattie (Hatty) and Henry Woosley in Paragould; she grew up there (shown on the 1920 Census with Ruth, Henry and Mary Woosley).

Ruth married Frank Kenneth Gillette born May 12, 1893 in Clarion County, Pennsylvania and died August 13, 1970 (some say 1956) in Green Grove Lodge, Neptune Twp, Monmouth County, New Jersey (some say in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon) (for some reason, his death record is online at Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida – he is shown as a widower) – buried Mountain View Memorial Park, Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington – they married in 1923 in Greene County, Arkansas. Her cousin Mary Woosley was probably like a sister to her, although Mary Woosley was 12 years younger than Ruth Whitmore – Mary Woosley would have been age 11 at Ruth’s wedding. Ruth and Frank had 1 son.

Anna Clark Whitmore was called Anna Weber of St. Louis in one article. She was shown as Mrs. A. M. Webber of Tacoma in her brother Will’s obituary in 1937, so she was married at least three times; Anna married third Mr. Weber – they married before 1937. She was injured in a traffic accident and died a year later (sometime after 1937). She was buried in Washington.

Tried to find more on the Whitmore line and hit a brick wall...
Any help with this family is appreciated.
lindajcox3@hotmail.com

William M Childress married Pernice Sweeton in Tippah County, MS 1867. I have found much on the Sweetons. They had 12 children with only 6 surviving in 1900. They are: Unknown Female (1870), Nancy E. (1875, my g grand) Andrew (1882) Author (1880) Walter (1889) and Dora (1886). The Unknown and Nancy were born in MS. However it is believed that the others were born near Searcy, AR. I have found a William M Childress there on the tax roll to support this. Between 1870 and 1893 there is a void of Census information. I did find this family again in the Choctaw records of 1893-1900. They appear again on the census in 1900. I have found several other Childress who moved from Tippah to Oklahoma taking the Searcy route but have been unable to make any links between them.

The 1850 Census in Marshall County records a John (father) Ellen (mother) William (son, b 1838) and John F (son, 1843. Does anyone know who they are?

In the 1870 Census Marshall County there is a Martin Childress/Childers and Pernicous Childress/Childers. They are my gg grands.

My gedcom is at
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&...
Julia Pruitt and John Henry Powell had a child

This couple had my dad and at birth his name was Joseph Wheeler Powell. His name was amended to JD Powell later on in life.

Julia Pruitt or July Pruitt as it is on paper, born 1883, and my dad was born Nov. 1914 in DeKalb, AL.

The mother that I grew up for dad was a Theodosha Pruitt. Dad's father was John Henry Powell.

Also, birth papers say, Julia/July Pruitt and a John Henry Powell.

So, what happened to Julia?

John Henry Powell then married my Grandmother, Theodosha Pruitt and they raised my father JD Powell. I do not know what the JD stands for.

If anyone knows any of this, please reply.

Thanks in advance.

My ancestor was killed in a skirmish in White County on May 28, 1862. The only listing I could find was a skirmish at Searcy Landing (also known as Big Indian Creek?) on May 27, 1862. His name was Amos Roark and I was wondering if anyone could tell me which unit he was attached to and where he would be buried at.

Would appreciate any assistance on an obit. lookup (or any other info.) for Larkin Pairet who passed 21 Jan 1877. He is buried in the Blassingame Cemetery in El Paso. He was married to Mary E. Lewis who later married Oliver Strickland, and later married J.M. Blassingame. I have located Larkin in all census records, and know he was born in Tennessee. I am hoping an obit. exists to trace his parents, John H. Parrot and mother unknown.
His name is spelled as LB Parrot/Parrott/Parrett/Parriott/Pairet/Pairett which makes finding info. on him difficult. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I found their tombstones in Roosevelt Cemetery, but would like to know more about them. I have an old photograph of the Capps with their children, taken in the late 1890's or so. I don't know much, only that Henry Halleck was a brother to a g-g-g-grandmother of mine. I would like to share the photo if anyone is interested in it.

Julia lived from 1826 to 1899, and was born in Tennessee. Julia was married to William M. Crosby (1814-1884), and had at least 5 children in White county, William, J. G., John, George, and Maggie. The family are in the White county census for years 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880, and one of the census list her as Julia A. F., and another census state her father being born in Virginia, and mother also being born in Tennessee. I believe Julia is buried in Fredonia Cemetery, Bald Knob, under Julia A. Crosby. Please contact me if you have any information or have a connection.

I'm looking for any info on my White Co. ancestors. One of my great-grandfathers was Joseph GROS (1862-1917), a one-legged Frenchman from Assumption Parish, LA. He was a cobbler by trade. His wife was "Frankie" MUNN(S), she died about 1897 during child birth, they had two sons Bob and James GROSS. Another great grandfather was David SCOGGIN (1867-1919), a merchant in Garner?. He married a Lalaue WILTON and their children were Ben, Winnie and my grandmother Lela (Lelier) M. SGOGGIN (1903-1992). Lela was the second wife of Joseph GROS' son James Bolton GROSS (1896-1964). The Scoggin's are buried in McRae, I know nothing really about the others. Any info or leads, particulary on the MUNN(S) and SCOGGIN lines would be greatly appreciated!

David died in 1918 but that is all that I have. The date on one of the sons, Cecil Ray Westmoreland is that he was born in 1916 and died in Mo in 1982. Cleveland (Tink) Westmoreland, I believe, was older than him.
Any info would be appreciated.
Just recently found out that they were in Bald Knob.

POW/MIA Korean War, White Co. BRADLEY

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave White County Arkansas as his home of record.

Soldier: EDGAR NEWTON BRADLEY
Born: May 24, 1929, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 12, 1950, POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 21 families in Arkansas that have not been located. There is one family from White County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I'm searching for a marriage between James Jackson McDaniel (sometimes called Jack or John or James) and Anna Robbins. She is listed as Alsa in 1870 census and Ann in 1880 census. She was born in 1853 in Georgia and first child was born in 1872. They were located in White Co., AR in 1870 census and thereafter. Do these marriage books exist? I don't see them on the White Co., AR Rootsweb page.
I am searching for a descendant of William Albert Stone (b. 1878) and Joseph Monroe Stone (b. 1887). They are brothers to my line, Jacob Alexander Stone (b. 1877). They were born in Marshall Co., MS, but both moved to White Co. AR after the1920 census but before 1930. I have that Uncle Albert married a Clara Ethel; and Uncle Joe married a Mary T. Their parents were Robert Reuben Stone and Mary Jane Polly Valentine Stone. If you are a descendant of one of these two “uncles,” please contact me at vernaws@aol.com. Thank you very much!
