Mr. George Bircham Morledge Jr., age 86, of Forrest City, died January 18, 2010 at the Cross Ridge Hospital in Wynne. He had been in poor health for the past several months. Mr. Morledge was born July 13, 1923, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was the son of George Bircham Morledge Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Waldrop Morledge. He lived in St. Francis County most all of his life, was a retired farmer, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Three Bronze Stars while serving in World War II. He had served on the Forrest City School Board, was a member of the Rotary Club, and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Forrest City. Mr. Morledge married Betty Claire Carlisle in 1940, and she preceded him in death in 2003. He is survived by one daughter, Kathy Meredith of Forrest City, five sons; George B. Morledge III, and Mike Morledge, both of Little Rock, W. Frank Morledge and Chris Morledge, both of Forrest City, and Craig Morledge of Jonesboro, fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services for Mr. Morledge were held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, with burial in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
