In Feb 1843 in Hempstead County, Arkansas (in portion that later became Nevada County), NATHAN COX (born 1822 AR or MO) married ELIZABETH BUCHANAN (born 1822-1823 AR or MO). They appear in the 1860 census under Carouse/Redland township in Ouachita County AR (although this township was on the line where Ouachita and Hempstead counties joined and where Nevada was later formed).
They had 4 children (per 1850 & 1860 censuses):
1. Frances M. Cox, born 1843-1844 AR.
2. James A. (or H.) Cox , born 1845-1846 AR; he probably married Jane Gresham in 1890.
3. Mary L. Cox, born 1847-1848 AR; probably married M. B. Clark in 1870.
4. Andrew J. Cox, born 1856 AR.
Also in Nathan's household in 1850's census was his wife's mother and sister--Mary BUCHANAN (born 1793 NC) and Evaline BUCHANAN (born 1826).
Elizabeth appears to have died about 1880, and Nathan appears to have married again to Nancy Murphey, daughter of John and Mary Murphey in Sevier County AR. Nathan and Nancy supposedly went to Oklahoma's Indian Territory to live about 1890-1900. There was also a Nathaniel COX earlier on the 1838 tax list in Sevier County AR, but it's unsure if they are connected.
It is a family tradition that this Nathan COX is related to my COX family that was from the same Nevada County AR area and timeframe---the John COX (born 1787 VA), Abner COX (born 1805 MO), and Abner's father William COX. I'm trying to determine how Nathan is connected and more about him.
Thanks!
