Funeral For Pioneer Resident Was Held Here Saturday Afternoon; Stores Close
William Thomas Blackwell, age 64, died at his home in Horatio at 10:15 Friday morning, January 22, from a complication of diseases from which he had suffered during the past couple of months.
Mr. Blackwell was born at Sabulia Mo., coming here from Poteau, Okla., about thirty years ago where he had been engaged in the mercantile and timber business. He had been a member of the Methodist church here since 1906, was a father and loyal husband and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in trouble.
He was married to Mrs. Beulah Garner, at Memphis, Tenn., Dec. 26, 1900, and is survived by his wife and two stepsons, Robert Garner, Port Arthur, Texas and Carl Garner, Horatio; one sister, Mrs. F.P. Miller, Farmerville, La., and three nephews, A.W. Huff, Cotton Valley, La., Paul Miller, Waco, Texas, and Tom Miller, Farmerville, La.
Funeral services were held at the residence Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.W. Christie, pastor of the Methodist church, and attended by a large gathering, the local stores closing from 2:30 to 3:30 to pay the last tribute to their fellow citizen.
