Am seeking information on Sidney M. Barnes, 1821-1890, born Estill county, KY, died Carthage MO, and buried in Fort Smith, AR. Barnes was a prominent attorney, Army officer during the Civil War, US Attorney for the Territory of New Mexico 1879-1882. He left two daughters and two sons—Thomas H. and James K. Barnes, both of Fort Smith, Arkansas, at the National Cemetery of which place his body was buried in 1895 and where his widow Elizabeth (Mize) lived until her death on February 25, 1904. Most importantly I am hoping to locate a photograph of Barnes; inexplicably, none of the historical societies in New Mexico, Arkansas, Missouri or Kentucky have one.
