My great grandpa was Charlie Petty married to Martha Walker. Charlie's dad was Joeseph Harrison Petty. They left Hector, Pope Co. Ar about 1928 and moved to the Biscoe AR area. The Curtis family from Pope is married into this line. This family was around Russelville & Pettytown. Does anybody out there connect with these surnames. What about Pendergrass, Hughes, or Cox?

I think I have-with much help-found the missing information on my Great Grandfather, General Floyd Ellis, his family that lived in Searcy

Here is what I need to find and am hoping someone can help me

Ellis was convicted of Bigamy-I want to find the transcript of the trial-have tried to connect the County Clerk-no answer-contacted the Prison-it was suggested that I contact the clerk
If I can find out the name of the other woman it would help
Also Ellis had trouble with I think it was-making liquor anything on that

Ellis was murdered by Beverly Burton (Max) (Whack) Bates
there was a trial-I wanted to find the transcript for that

Bates was killed by his "wife" the one he married when he escaped-anything on that-newspaper anything on his estate that was claimed by his "first and only legal wife"
Anything on Bates or Ellis

It is possible that there were other children and I want to find out

Hope someone has information. I am looking for any information on Green Harvey Williams buried in Crossroads cemetery, Appleton. He is buried there with his wife Susan E. Williams. I believe her to be a Adams. She was previously married to a Moore out of Mississippi, where they all were from. I believe that Orlena Fae Williams (Clark), who was married to My GGrandfather Elias Clark, is their daughter. Both buried there ,just below Green Harvey Williams & Susan. If anyone can help or add too it would be greatly appreciated.

Daughter Eliza Jane who married Lee Wisdom also moved with the Taylor family. Lee was a Civil War casualty, buried Augusta, Ga in 1863. Eliza received a widows pension until her death in 1925. I would like to contact someone from the Harmon Ross family. It is believed someone from this family has a picture of Henry N. Pryor. Any clues would be appreciated.

I am sitting here at my computer a little overwhelmed. I love doing family tree--I admit I am addicted. Sometimes I sit here 5 hours or more a day, and at times half the night. I would rather do this than just about anything, even eating(wow-did I say that). I just wanted to take a few minutes to thank everyone out there on the internet, in Pope Co, and the special people who have helped me with the information I have. At the same time, I want to comment on how you do it. I feel like I have so much to do and so little time. I have met wonderful people in Pope Co. that I am related to, even distantly. I have even visited these people, I have been back twice. You see, I live in central Calif. Tell me how I could be researching better and how to contact people in my same tree.

I have documentation for my family back to Joshua Pettit of Spartanburg, South Carolina. My Tree starts with my grandfather Zachariah T. My tree goes Zachariah Talmadge> Zachariah Taylor> Ashford> Nathan> Joshua (brother to Henry)> Joshua. In South Carolina I have that Joshua Pettit and Henry Pettit first showed up there on the 1790 census. I have Henry's Rev. War Pension naming his father as Joshua Pettit. I find FGS naming his line as Joshua(from my line)>Joshua>Thomas>Thomas>Henri but I am not finding any documentation to support this. I live in Arkansas and am just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to find the documentation that will support this information?

Hedgepaths in Illinois Township, Pope County, from TN

Does anyone have access to the "History of Pope County, Vol.1"? I saw several Hedgepeth names, some info on pg 257, but I don't have the book. Perhaps the answer to my question(s) is in it.

My Hedgepath line comes from Lawrence, Maury, Counties in Tennessee, then to Pope County, Arkansas. I'm stuck on where they were before TN. Here's what I know:

John Franklin Hedgepath b. 1873,TN d. 1948, AR; (my ggrandfather)
married Eliza Harriet Martin 1893, TN;
moved to Pope County, AR about 1903.
My grandmother was their daughter, Virgie Odell Hedgepath Price(1908-2005)Russellville, AR.

There were about 6-8 children, four were boys, but all have passed. None of the brothers had children.

I'm fairly certain John's father was William (Edward?) Hedgepeth (1818-1903) born in Maury, TN, married to Martha Janes Miles (1835-1896) also born in TN.

His first wife may have died - Elizabeth (McCaslin?) - they had 3 (?) children who, I think moved to Missouri. The children with Martha stayed in TN or moved to AR, like my GGF.

I can't figure out who William's father was or where he came from. I have found a recently found a Thomas Hedgepath and a Counsel Hedgepeth (various spellings abound) in the 1820 Maury County, TN Census. Could either of these men be William's father? And if so, from where does he assend?

Really need help on locating Young M. Lee birth/death date, and parents names. He was born in Tenn, around 1815, was married to a Jane Ferrell, lived in Pope county in 1840/1850 census. Jane passed away, and he married Olive Hubble Metcalf Battenfield, and they had two children. Marion Porter Alden Lee, and Olive Salina Lee. Young's children before he married Olive Battenfield were Finnis,Amanda Jane, Mary Jane, Sarah Elizabeth, and Isabella, all these children were born in Tenn, but show up on the Arkansas census. I have been told that Young M. Lee was buried at Lee Mountain, approx death before 1870.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I still think that this Mary is the Mother of Manie/Marnie Ellis age 7 in 1900 Pope, Dover census listed as Grandaughter to John.

Think also that she (Marnie/Manie) is the daughter of Mary Simpson and FLOYD ELLIS

Floyd was by Great Grandfather-murdered in 1903-convicted of Bigamy in 1899

I really want to find more information on my Great Grandfather and if it takes finding the trial records for his bigamy charges so that I can find if this is true I will.
I have written to the city clerk and asked for any information and to date have not heard anything.

If this is true and this "child" is his "child" she might know more than-when he was born (the year) where he was born (and maybe a clue to help me find more of his family) and when he was murdered and where he is buried
As I have no idea where he was buried after dying in 1903 I think it would have been Dover but don't know, any help, clue anything is greatly appreciated.

Mausoleum at Rest Haven Cemetery

Does anyone have any information about the mausoleum at Rest Haven Cemetery in Russellville? I am particularly interested in who built it. One of my grandfathers uncles/cousins built mausoleums. They were orginally from Russellville (some family still lives there) and I have heard that he possibly was the builder. The uncles name was Gale(Lewis)Bryan and the cousin was Cecil Bryan. Cecil Bryan built over 70 mausoleums around the country and the family is trying to track them down. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am searching for information concerning William Johnson(1824-Ap. 1875) who married Sarah Jane Green in 1848 in Meigs Co., TN. They moved to Saline Co., AR around 1851 with the William Green family. Also coming to AR around the same time was Elizabeth Johnson, possibly William's sister. She married James Garner around 1853 or 1854 in Saline or Perry Co. Around 1863 Elizabeth and children moved to Greene Co., MO to be with her family who had moved there from Rhea Co., TN. I suppose James had died. (her parents were: John and Rebecca MORRIS).

George and Tabitha lived in Polk County, Arkansas in the 1800's. My g.grandfather, George "Barnett" CRAWFORD was born September 23, 1881 in Polk Co., AR; m. Minnie Burns, then Elizabeth "Lizzy" Jolley of TX.

He had three brothers and two sisters that I know of:
John "Henry" b. abt 1875; Henry was the oldest & may have been born in Polk, AR also; m. Emma Isabell and had one daughter prior to his death in March 03, 1902 in Choctaw Nation, OK. Emma m. a Lee Job after Henry died; she died August 19,1903 in Choctaw Nation, OK

"Gus"b. abt 1879; m. Becky Slusher September 15, 1898 in Choctaw Nation, OK; had twins;Ollie & George CRAWFORD August 13, 1901
Marvin b. abt 1886
Pear b. abt 1888
Alice b. abt 1891
So far I have found no further information on the youngest three CRAWFORD children. *Although the rest were alive when issued their Certified Indian Degree Card by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
George W. CRAWFORD's father is possibly a George A. CRAWFORD; source is not sure of this last info. The rest is all verified. *Also, Tabitha is Choctaw Indian, her mother was full blood Choctaw; our family all have are CDIB, Indian Degree cards thru her lineage.

Any info on George W. &Tabitha MORRIS CRAWFORD's ancestors (or anywhere they might have been mentioned) would be greatly appreciated!

On one of the census it looks like Robert Scott had 3 childred when he and Zuella married on of them being Ozetta B.Scott. My aunt remebers my grandmother, Ozetta's daughter, telling her that Ozetta's mother left her in a neighbors yard when she little and never came back. We are trying to find out who her mother was. I'm from the Alexander Wheeler line of Pope Co. His son Devalson Barnett was my ggrandfather. He was named after Alexander's stepfather. Devalson had a Daughter named Molly and she had married a Mathews. Having lived in Little Rock around l890 and moving to New Mexico then marrying a Ohumus from Carlsbad,NM. I'm wondering if this is the Molly listed in the Pope Co. history books. Devalson moved to New Mexico about l907 after his wife Margaret Younger Brown died. He and his son Bennett worked for the Whites at the Caverns. they were some of the first down in the bucket with torch to do exploring. He had a Son, Andrew, who was my grandfather. there are stories of Margaret being connected to the Cole Younger Family. Devalson's sons were Albert, Andrew,named after his brother, William Bennett, and Cole. Andrew named my father Cole and I am Carolyn Cole . Molly and Ethel were his daughters.I have done lots of reading about Cole Younger and there is a story that he had a friend named Lizzie Brown from Ark. He was never married. Is this a backdoor connection????? Sadie Hicks, Ben Wheeler's daughter had heard of the connection because Margaret Brown's brother Bill Brown was involved with the Quantrill Gang. He died an early death. Devalson and all of his sons seem to be the trail blazing type. Drinking and gambling and involed in their own kind of law. I am trying to confirm that the marriage of John Hill and Mrs. Nancy Vandyne in Pope County, Arkansas on January 11, 1836 is my Hill line. I believe that this marriage was a second marriage for both as my John Hill was born in 1800 in North Carolina. I find my line in neighboring Scott County, Arkansas in 1850 liste as John Hill (born 1800 in North Carolina) and Nancy Hill (born 1811 in Mississippi). I am attempting to determine the John and Nancy Hill of Pope County, AR in 1836 is the same as my John and Nancy Hill of Scott County, AR in 1850.

Family tradition states that John W. Hill, 1822 (aka Isaac Hill) had two step-siblings: Eli Hill, b. 1843 and Margaret Hill, b. 1847. If Mrs. Nancy Vandyne is the mother of Eli and Margeret and they were married in 1836, this would determine the true mother of several other siblings in the family. John W. Hill, Eli Hill and Margaret Hill later moved to Hays County, TX. I have around 1,000 descendants of these three from Hays County, TX and I am attempting to break that "brick wall" on his father, John Hill (born 1800 in North Carolina). The Hill Family is covered in the back of the book as an allied line of the Brooks. John W. Hill's daughter, Rhoda Hill married Francis Asberry Brooks, both my great grandparents.

I am currently researching the following people:
J. E. Gabel (b. Tennessee) married Rebecca Jones (b. ca 1868 Tennessee) in Searcy County Arkansas on 19 Apr 1885. His age is given as 42, hers as 18. They are found in the 1910 Pope Arkansas census as James E. Gabel, Rebecca and son, Jeff D.

James E. Gabel is listed in the U. S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865 in the 48th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry (Nixon's)Company I. An alternate name is given: James E. Gabriel.

James and Rebecca's son, Jeff Davis Gabriel, (1902-1966) married Sylvia L. Beverage about 1922 in Dabney Arkansas.

James E. Gabel is buried in the Appleton Cemetery, Pope County, Arkansas. A newspaper obituary lists a death date of 12 April 1911 and last name is spelled Gable.

Rebecca Jones Gabriel died Aug 23, 1948 and is buried in the Appleton Cemetery, Appleton, Arkansas

There is a Rebeccah Gabriel listed on page 240 of the Pope County History Vol. 2 A-G but unsure if there is a relationship. There is also a J. W. Gable listed on page 343 but again am unsure if a relationship. Does anyone have access to this book?
