SInce I do not know what town you will be traveling from, I will give directions from Russellville.

From Russellville, go north on Hwy 7 to Dover. Take Hwy 27, North to Scottsville. At Scottsville take a left onto Hwy 164. When your going down 164 you will see a house that looks like you are going to run right into it. There is a fork in the road at that house. Stay to the left. Keep going until you get to Broomfield road. Broomfield road will turn left. It is a paved road. DO NOT TURN LEFT ONTO BROOMFIELD ROAD. Instead go straight onto the gravel road. I believe it is called Granny Gap Mountain road. I am not quite sure of the name. Granny Gap Mountain is also called Goates Mountain. This gravel raod will take you UP the mountain. (Broomfield Rd. goes around the base of the mountain.)The Cemetery is on the right about 3/4 the way up the maountain. You can't miss it because they have an arch with the name "Goates Cemetery" on it.

Another way to get there is to take Hwy 7 north. Go through Dover, staying on Hwy 7. Go several miles past Illinois Bayou to Broomfield Rd. Turn Left. Stay on Broomfield Rd. until it dead ends. Turn left onto gravel rd. Go up the mountain. Cemetery is on right.

I lived on Crooked Branch Rd, north of Dover for 10 years. We moved back to the Houston Texas area in 1998. If I was still there, I would have loved to show you where it is.

Do you know if your Goates bunch are from the Scottsville Goates or the Atkins bunch? The Scottsville Bunch are descended from John Leonard Goats. The Atkins bunch are descendants of David Coleman Goats. John and David are brothers.

My great grand-parents are buried in the Goates Cemetery. They are Elbert K. Goates and Mary Minerva (Cox) Goates. They are under the big tree.

Good luck with your search.
