My grandmother,
Celia Ann
Davis is the daughter of
Henderson Lafferty Davis and Martha Ann Bell.
My question is was
Henderson a
Lafferty or a
Davis?
In the 1870 Census of
Newton county, transcription available at
Newton Co GenWeb project site,
in Jackson Township a "
Lafferty,
Henderson" age 9 yrs is listed in the
Isham J Davis/Sarah
Stanton Harp family.
He is listed as I show,
Lafferty,
Henderson. Indicating his last name is
Lafferty under him is "FRANKLIN" age 5.
His brother? My guess is that
Henderson and Franklin were perhaps the sons of a deceased daughter of
Isham and Sarah, but I can find no record of a marriage of one of the known daughters to a
Lafferty.
In later years
Henderson went by
Davis. All of his children are listed as
Davis, one being my grandmother.
So is it
Lafferty or is it
Davis?
Has anyone run across this name?
