I knew my grandfather - he died when I was 4. Actually, my siblings knew him better. The ONLY place I've seen them as a family was in the 1880 census of Newton Co. AR. John Lemons (Sr.) was also on a couple of Personal Property lists with the last one in 1884 marked in red DEAD. According to my grandfather (told us via my mother), he was orphaned at 10 yrs of age, which would make it 1885.One parent died the result of heart trouble, the other with a influenza epidemic. He also said that his mother, Martha King was John Lemons' 2nd wife, and that James (9) and Martha (8) [1880] were his 1/2 siblings and Tom his full brother. I have not been able to find a marriage record for his parents. He left Newton Co. at 18 and was married in 1895 in Pope Co. I found his brother Tom in the 1900-1930 census in Pope, Logan and Johnson Co. plus marriage and death date. Cannot pinpoint anything on James and Martha. Family stories say that my grandfather added the extra m to our last name.
